Boil-water advisory issued across Quebec WebPosted Sat Aug 19 17:55:36 2000 ET QUEBEC CITY - Some 50,000 people in communities across Quebec have been advised to boil their drinking water.

Environment Minister Paul Begin issued the advisory Friday, asking that people boil their tap water for several weeks.

The towns include Senneville, Baie St. Paul and Malbaie, Salaberry de Valleyfield and L'Ascension.

Begin says 90 private and municipal water systems will have 20 days to improve the quality of their water.

Despite the order to boil water, a medical expert with the Quebec Institute for Public Health says there are no immediate risks of widespread illnesses.

Quebec regions that have some communities with water-quality problems include the Eastern Townships, Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, Charlevoix, Monteregie and the Laurentians.
