I loved the osund of rain on the tin roof so much that after i stopped spending weekends at my grandmother's i used to actually run upstairs for about five minutes if it was raining during a daytime visit, just to hear it briefly.

Once i even taped an aluminum pie plate to the bedroom window sill in an old apartment to hear the rain on it. It worked but the next day it was blown off.

The sound that gives me the most security? There is a waterfall near my grandmother's called Mason Falls. The path leading to it is hidden by some trees and bushes, so there aren't too many tourists who know about it. If you walk down the path for about a minute, you'll find a huge rock that overlooks the falls, and even though you're only two seconds away from the sidewalk and the blaring horns, the sound of the water rushing over the rocks completely drowns out those annoying village sounds. If I sit there long enough with my eyes closed, whatever has been stressing me out lately is carried away with the water to plummet to the rocks below.

I realized last night that the most comforting sound to me is Mary's breathing as she lies beside me in bed. I slept so much better now that she is home again.
