new EOS body: ELAN 7

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Well folks the A2 replacement has not surfaced yet, but one for the Elan II/IIE has. In a mix up, Outdoor Photographer has published a short intro to the upcoming Elan 7/7E. A quick call to Canon confirmed the mix up (the official release is not slated for several weeks). Here are some of the particulars: - high speed, 7 point AF - ultra quiet Whisper Drive film advance for 4 frames per second - 35-zone evaluative metering - eye control focus with the 7E

Canon would not release any further details, other than saying that it looks like it will replace the Elan II/IIE.

The Camera Equipment Forum has some details from someone that got an early peek at it. There's even a picture.

I work at Abbey Camera, Sterling, Va., and we just had our grand opening this past weekend and the Canon rep had a Elan 7 and the D30. Yuri description is right on the money with the Elan 7. Additionally, the camera is lighter and smaller than the Elan II. It retains the knobs and buttons of the Elan II, and has a battery pack that uses either 4 AA's or 2 C123 lithium batteries. According to the rep the Elan 7 should be shipping around Halloween. The D30 is also a sweetheart of a camera. I'm sure you've read the tech spec, but here is the one's I remember. A 3.5 megapixle CMOS chip, a 4 frames per second motor drive, an accessory battery pack, can use the IBM microdrive, and a retail price of around $3000. More details to follow on both by Wednesday Oct. 11, 2000.

A digital camera with a motor drive huh? Neat trick. :)

Hi guys, I thought the EOS 3 was supposedly the replacement for the A2? I have not heard of any more A@ replacements coming down the pike, have you?
