Job injuries

greenspun.com : LUSENET : AMTNSW : One Thread

Did anyone else read the article in the Sydney Morning Herald 10 Aug 00 about a NSW Gov enquiry into the money spent on job injuries? I have tried searching the the NSW Gov web site for more info but I don't have time to wait today (it is terribly slow to search) The text of the article can be found at http://www.smh.com.au/news/0008/10/text/national1.html It is worth reading as it raises issues that could well affect us. PS Thank you Kirsten for a job well done.

Thanks for the link Geoff,

I'd be very interested in anything else you dig up. Imagine if GPs were properly trained to diagnose soft tissue injuries. But I wonder where massage will/can fit into the equation then - will they also be trained as to who is the most appropriate referral?

I only have one problem with this new venture - WHERE IS THE SPELL CHECK??

Sorry Diana, there is no spell check!! You'll just have to edit very carefully before posting (or do what I do - don't worry about it!).

Interesting article Geof.

It would be good if GP's had a little more knowledge about soft tissue conditions - altho' whether that will be good for us in the long run is anybody's guess. They may well decide that we don't have enough training to be part of the system because we don't have university degrees.

Seems like the government is really trying to say tho' that those pesky physios, chiros etc. need to be brought into line - they don't really know what they are doing so it's time to bring in the *real* health professionals (ie doctors) to fix things up. Seems a little backward to say that to fix the system you have to train a group to work with soft tissue, when there are already soft tissue specialists in the system.

It'll be interesting to see how it all works out.

Geoff, on Friday I was listening to the news on the radio and there was an item that general practitioners will be taught more about soft tissue injuries so that correct diagnosis and early treatment would take place. I presume it is a direct response to the enquiry.

It is always a bitter sweet feeling for me to realise yet again that the medical profession does not have the answers for soft tissue injuries - it is just that they do not often admit it!
