Last Night's Survivor

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Two things struck me as odd about last night's episode.

When Sean went out to the yacht his father just happened to be on it. Since they didn't know in advance he would win the challenge, they must have had the other parents on hand as well - yet no one on the beach asked that question.

Did anyone tape this epoisode? Reason for asking. From watching the voting, and I think only Rudy didn't show his vote, I thought over half had voted Sean off, yet Colleen was the one to go. Would just like it double checked.

It is now to the point where the alliance will have to start eating their young.

Wasn't there a 24 hour period between when he won the challenge and when he was taken to the boat ?

-- Nick in NC (nick_frank@yahoo.com), August 10, 2000.

Nick:

I know there was a time lapse period, but even 24-hours isn't enough to get someone from the U.S. to a remote island in that time. He had to have been in the area already. It stands to reason family members of the other remaining ones are there also, unless the questions were tailored to where someone with a medical degree would be the likely winner.

If Rudy can make it to the final two, I think he will win. The last ones kicked off have a vote and most likely won't vote for anyone on the alliances which kicked them off. Rudy seems to be playing it just right.

My hat is off to the producers. They thought this out in extreme detail in advance.

I watched this show for the first time last night and I just want to go on record to say that anyone with such a nice name shouldn't have been voted off. LOL All in all, I think the show is somewhat interesting in studying human behaviour but it is also a strange show. I think the women missed the boat (no pun intended) by not banding together to vote Sean off. As a minimum it would have created a tie. I think men have a tendency to be more team players and will band together to achieve their objective. Had the women done so, they then would have outnumbered the men for the next two sessions and they could have been able to remain in the game and resolve it between them. I think they missed a good opportunity. The men are their biggest threat and they should have eliminated them first by power in numbers. I don't have anything against men, I just think men more naturally stick together. They could have made Rich the last one they went after so he would still be providing fish. I too think Rudy will be the final player because of his quiet, methodical methods. I feel like he is a shark in a goldfish pond just biding his time. Keeping in the background keeps them from focusing on him as a competitor to eliminate.

I really want Rudy to win, but aren't Susan and Rich in cahoots? I'm afraid that it will come down to the 3 of them and I dont think they'll let Rudy stay. I just hope that either Sue or Rich get voted off soon so that wont happen. Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!

Anyone who thinks this is phony should have gotten a look at Coleen's legs last night, ick! Everyone is looking awfully rotten, thin and sickly for a put up job! That was the whole point of letting Sean wait so long was to get his Dad to the Yacht. Our families biggest question is imagine being the camera man filming them eating their rice gruel while you are munching on a snickers! :) I love this show, still am watching Big Brother but it is very much like watching grass grow! Yawn! Now they have introduced an ugly pug that one of the guys is allergic to, put outside, and this dumb pooch ran outside and nearly drowned in the pool! How fair is that for him to have to put up with a dog, and the gal smoking 24/7 even if she and the dog are outside.. Vicki

-- Vicki McGaugh (vickilonesomedoe@hotmail.com), August 10, 2000.

Ken, if they had the challenge in the morning and he didn't go till late the next evening, it would be closer to 36 hours, and with $$ it is possible.

-- Anne (HT@HM.com), August 10, 2000.

I was waiting and it finally happened ! The promise of physical harm for treachery. Rudy told Rich--if you say you are my friend and turn on me than I am going to do something about it. I myself watch a person's eyes and he struck the fear of God into Rich. I think Rich would vote himself off before he turns on the Navy Seal--even a 72 year old one. On top of everything else, Rudy is a Virginian. Long Live Rudy the Sepratist !

-- Joel Rosen (Joel681@webtv.net), August 10, 2000.

Joel, you are so funny! They don't tell you how long the wait was before Sean went to the yacht, so it was possible, I think to get his father there. There is always more information on the CBS website, things that you don't get to see on the actual show. They supposedly tape something like 125 hours for each episode. I too, think Rudy will probably be the last survivor, even though he is a bit narrowminded and outspoken. At least he hasn't made promises to anyone else about how he would vote, and then not kept them. As far as the Big Brother show, what a waste of airtime. Jan

-- Jan in Colorado (Janice12@aol.com), August 10, 2000.

I was confused because Rudy, Sue and Rich were on the beach talking how Colleen was trying so hard and she was in no danger of being kicked off. Then the three of them said, "Okay, it's Sean's turn" then they (yes Ken, Rudy voted for Colleen. Showed fast) voted Colleen off. Colleen's final words were to "play nice and be fair". Sue looked like she felt bad after that. (I think Sue is going to win)

-- Dee (gdgtur@goes.com), August 11, 2000.

Ken, I think they had the time to get his dad there, they probably had everyone waiting on call. Sean is dead meat, after turning on Kelly and sucking up to Rich. Susan was so disgusted with him as he wishy washed his way through choosing someone. Colleen had to go, her legs needed medical attention that was clear even on t.v. I think Susan let Rich have Colleen in exchange for Sean next week. Rudy lurks............I wouldn't want to piss him off. Looking forward to next week, my bet for winner is Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!

-- Tina (clia88@newmexico.com), August 11, 2000.

Tina:

Had I been Sean, I think I would have forfitted my night on the yacht to Colleen. Even though she appeared to be applying some type of salve at one point, she obviously needed medical attention. She said her legs hurt at night, and was the reason she couldn't stay on the boards any longer, and I don't question that. Besides my being raised a 'southern gentleman,' it wouldn't have hurt his standing with the others either. This guy is an egotist, who happens to me a highly specialized MD. Took a razor as his luxory item so he could shave his chest so his pecks would stand out. He has already been hired as a medical advisor to Survivors II and will appear in a couple of the medical TV sitcoms. To Colleen's credit, since then she turned down an offer to appear in Playboy. Janna is seriously considering it. I am now a Rudy fan.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Go Susan!!!!!!!!! Vicki

-- Vicki McGaugh (vickilonesomedoe@hotmail.com), August 11, 2000.

Okay --I've made a fool of myself in previous posts on this by underestimating CBS -- I won't again.

I do hope, though, that Rudy gets it. I just think that ANYONE who manages to survive this long when they're three times the age of the others deserves it!!!

A few months ago I thought this show was just a game, entertainment, for fun. Now I see it as a deadly serious mirror on life. Even a mirror on this forum.(Notice the alliances here? The special brand of PC?) The best part is when Rudy says ----- is a pain in the ass. Maybe thats the way us old farts see things. (I also like his grin when he says that---same as mine.) But it also puts a lot in perspective. In the beginning I really thought this would be a SURVIVOR kind of thing, a homestead challenge, man against the elements. But the way it has turned out... people against people... maybe thats a homestead challenge too? And maybe more instructive?

-- Jd Belanger (belanger@tds.net), August 15, 2000.

After Rudy's initial poor start (he almost got kicked off) I am amazed at his ability to now stay in the background. However, I'm still putting my vote in for Rich, though he has aliented a good portion of the voting cast-offs. They say there are only 2 episodes left.......

-- Sue (sulandherb@aol.com), August 16, 2000.

Jd, the "special brand of PC?" Is that political correctness? I would be very interested in hearing more of your observation if you feel like discussing it more here, or on another thread! I think it might be important. AND, I don't watch the show, so doubly needing explanation...

-- sheepish (rborgo@gte.net), August 16, 2000.

I always watched the show for the personal conflict. I think that is more important than any survival skill. It is the "beast" in us that ultimatly controls our fate. The lamb is nice for social outings but we wrestle against darkness, principalities and evil things in high places. The beast in us can save us but the lamb is weak and shy and will usually get you killed. The lambs wrestle with "PC" while the beast devours them ! Of course I'm just a Redneck and that corporate crap don't fly around here.
