Scotland: Computer delay to cost taxpayer #10m

THE Public Accounts Committee urged the
Government to look again at the pros and
cons, including the costs, of allowing the
contractor behind the new computerised
National Insurance Recording System
(NIRS2) to keep the so-called intellectual
property rights.

And its report revealed that delays in
setting up the system and getting
compensation from the contractor,
Andersen Consulting, is likely to cost the
taxpayer an extra #10m as the Government
has decided not to pursue its case for
further compensation.
