Major power breakdown hits Sonepat HT Correspondent (Sonepat, August 7)

SEVERAL RESIDENTIAL colonies here were plunged into darkness following a major power breakdown last night.

According to many residents, the power breakdown occurred around 9 pm and the power supply was restored at 2 am. This caused great inconvenience to thousands of people living in the colonies.

A large number of residents assembled in front of various power department offices and held demonstrations in protest against the inadequate and erratic power supply.

They also shouted slogans against the Uttar Haryana Bijli Nigam (UHBVN) and the Chautala Government.

According to some residents, the areas in and around general bus stand, Kot Mohalla and the adjoining localities were the worst-hit as they have power cuts everyday between 7 pm and 10 pm.

They also alleged that the officials of the UHBVN were indifferent to their complaints.

They demanded a high-level probe into the complaints about the erratic power supply and the indifferent attitude of the concerned officials.
