After nine days of problems with its e-mail services, Australian ISP OzEmail, a subsidiary of US-based MCI WorldCom/UUNet [NASDAQ:WCOM], says it is posting an explanation to subscribers. The explanation says OzEmail is upgrading its system to "Intermail" by Software.com.

"During the upgrade we experienced a fault with a vital piece of hardware called a foundry switch" Justin Milne, OzEmail's GM Internet writes.

"This fault was non-software related and extremely difficult to detect, resulting in an unavoidable disruption to the mail service. I apologise sincerely for any inconvenience this may have caused you."

To make up, OzEmail says it will credit all members with 10 free hours connection time, to be used over the next month.
