Advice on making cuttings and propagating

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have the opportunity to make some cuttings from a blueberry bush in the next few days, and really want to get about 10 cuttings. However I've always had limited success with my cuttings and was looking for some advice on how to stack the deck in my favor.

i do not know that this is the right time of the year for blue berries. we use to do 1000's of cutting a day and thei is what we did. youneed to use this years growth, remove the leaves close to the nod{the place the leaf meets th stem},remove any fruit or flowers, dip in hormone and place in a flat of mix. [pearlite and sand},water and cover. be sure the humitidy is kept high and the tray is kept out of direct sun it will burn the leaves under plastic. we could fit 50 ivy cutting per flat so i am sure 10 will not be a problem. allow air to circulate around each cutting.water when soil is only slightly moist they will rot if they get to wet.

Blueberries cuttings should be made in the winter when the bushes are dormant. Keep the cuttings in a frig until it's warm outside or keep them inside when you try to root them.

Blueberries also can take a long time to root, even with rooting hormones.
