JAKARTA, Aug. 7 (Kyodo) -- A powerful explosion occurred Monday morning at an oil refinery owned by Indonesia's state-owned Pertamina oil company in Balikpapan town in East Kalimantan province, an official in Jakarta said Monday. There was no immediate report of casualties, the official said.

A Pertamina spokesman told Kyodo News by phone that the explosion occurred around 6:45 a.m. Firefighters put the fire out around 7:30 a.m., the spokesman said.

Balikpapan is around 2,100 kilometers northeast of Jakarta.
