Hi

Does anyone know of any tool that can split avi files that is larger than 2.1 Gb?

I would like to capture programs direct from a TV signal in avi. Edit in Premiere and export to mpg (Video CD) through the Panasonic plug-in.

As the limit is about is about 2 Gb I can't find a way around this.

Try AVI_IO. It's a capture program that will capture tons of gigabytes of AVI split up to any size files you wish and even will span several disc drives or partitions without the need for a raid array. It does all this seamless without dropping frames between files. Has lots of neat features. I often use it to capture 20 plus gigabytes of AVI uncompressed in 10 each 2 gigabyte files. Also has a "schedule" program to autostart and stop captures from a TV tuner if you have one in your system.

AVI_IO is a good looking program, but there is also virtualdub. It's open-sourced, and supports both OpenDML ( Under NT avi's of any size ), and a spill system to split avi's at 2 gb across multiple files and multiple drives.

I have been using virtualdub since I found it and it has worked like a charm. The only reason I'de switch is to get simple timed recording working. virtualDub has to be done by hand. VirtualDub also has a full linear avi editor as well ( it reads split captures as one avi for easy editing ).

So try both and use whatever is most appropriate.

I noticed in your answer "Under NT avi's of any size". Does this mean that if I will run my capture card under NT4 or NT5(2000) I will not have to worry about the 2 Gb limit?

Using the new OpenDML avi system ( many new programs support it ) there is only the file system limit for capturing avi's. NTFS can support file sizes up to 4 terabites I believe. Under 9x you can capture up to 4gb, as that is the filesystem limit for one file.

So yes, using the right software you would never have to split an avi again.

There are not spliting cutiing tools under linux ? I can't install Virtaul dub.

I can use the command split but how i can create an avi header.
