LCD in EOS3 is dim when viewed from above camera

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I have a 2 month old EOS3 and am happy with it except for a problem with the LCD. When viewed from directly overhead the camera the charactors are a bit dim--gray instead of black. As I move my head to the front of the camera the display becomes extremely dim/gray. However, when viewed from behind the camera the display is normal--i.e., the charactors are black and clear.

I noticed this problem the other day when using the camera on a low tripod and thus I was looking down at the LCD all the time (handheld, I may have never noticed the problem). I had an EOS1N whose LCD failed a few years ago (progressively became dim) so I'm a little worried.

My old Elan's LCD is readable from any angle as is my A2. So what do you think, is this a normal LCD or is mine beginning to go south?

Thanks, Kuniga

One of my EOS 5s does this. It seems normal to me.

A couple suggestions. Go look at a new one in the camera shop, if possible. If it does it straight out of the box, then you have a standard feature! Second would be to call Canon and see what their replay is.

All the electronic LCDs that I have owned have faded over time beacuse of my handling of them in a less than perfect manner. It is a fact with LCD. however, this has not happend with my EOS 5s, but I treat them better than most the radio walkman I posess.

I've never encountered this problem with any of the EOS cameras I've used, including the Elan, A2, 1n, and 1V. Have it checked.
