Adecco said sales in its information
technology business had increased because
of the merger with Olsten, but added that
the sector had not developed as strongly
organically as originally anticipated.

Bowmer said the IT lag ``is almost wholly
related to the year 2000 issues.'' He said
the year 2000 computer glitch concerns had
led to a slowdown in IT staffing demand as
companies replaced entire computer systems
rather than making old ones Y2K compliant.
