Experts at Middleboro

greenspun.com : LUSENET : New England Motocross Racing : One Thread

I decided to take a trip to Middleboro yesterday afternoon to check things out (I wasn't expecting any improvements and therefore was not dissapointed). There was a posting in the newsletter saying that Capeway Rovers would be sending out information to everyone but did not mention what it related to so everyone will have to wait and see. The highlight of the afternoon was seeing that MOST of the experts had the guts to stick together and elected not to ride. Unfortunately, some (not all) track owners could care less if the experts ride. Beyond the 10 bucks they get from Experts at the gate they don't make any money (my understanding is that the experts get 100% payback). Given this situation having Experts ride is work for the track owners with little hope for any profit with the exception of revenue that could be attributed to spectator attendance. My point here is that although it was good to see the riders stick together it probably had only a minimal impact. I may be off base here but from what I saw there seemed to be a slightly lower turn out in the Novice classes but the B classes seemed pretty full. I chose not to ride because I support the riders. I strongly belive it is time to remove Castro as the president of NESC. What was once a great organization that represented riders now represents track owners and there needs to be a better balance for NESC to survive.

Bernie Yelllin: I noticed Jack posted some positive comments recently about Bernie. For those of you that are not aware I sent a fairly lengthy letter to the NESC some time ago (it is posted on this site somewhere)in which the NESC never bothered to even respond. Apparently Bernie never saw it until it got posted on this site and called me. I can say that Bernie was very concerned about some issues and asked that we sit down and talk the next time I came to the track. My main or initial interest was trying to help find a way to resolve the whole sign up fiasco. I did make it to Southwick last week but it was late in the afternoon and Bernie was busy so I decided to wait until the next race. I think I have come up with a great way to reduce sign up lines and I can tell you that Bernie seemed very interested in listening to ideas on how to improvement MX338 events.

Final thoughts on the Middleboro fiasco: Experts were NOT the only riders banned. A friend of mine (250 Novice rider) rode practice, was not comfortable with the track conditions and didn't feel very well (probably a massive hangover). He did not attend the meeting but heard afterward that he could choose to not ride that day and move his entry to the next event. He elected to do so and because of this got a registered letter just like the other riders.

Hopefully many of you went to Jolly Rogers on Sunday and rode on a fun track owned and run by a guy who cares.

SUZUKI TODAY, HONDA ,KAWASAKI, YAMAHA TOMMORROW? I HOPE NOT ,I THINK THE NESC AND THE TRACK OWNERS SHOULD LET THE WATER GO UNDER THE BRIDGE. THE POINT HAS BEEN MADE GIVE THE RIDERS MORE LAPS ON IMPROVED TRACKS WITH A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF THE RULES AND PENALTIES FOR INFRACTIONS OF THOSE RULES,MORE POINTS FOR ADVANCEMENT TO AM. AND EXPERT CLASSES,AND BETTER HAMBURGERS FOR JACK AND THE REST OF US!!! I KNOW THEY HAVE BEEN HAVING MEETINGS, I HOPE IT CENTERED ON WHAT IS BEST FOR THE RIDERS. THIS ISN'T SOCCER OR BASEBALL ,THIS IS RACING, READ THE WAIVERS THAT THE TRACK OWNERS MAKE YOU SIGN! THIS IS A DANGEROUS SPORT AND IT'S THE RIDERS THAT TAKE THE RISKS ,MAKE IT SAFER AND MORE FUN FOR THEM,MY SON IS ONE OF THOSE RIDERS!!!
