turkey hens fighting

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

i have raised turkeys for years, but normally they go in the freezer come thanksgiving time. last year decided to keep a tom and two hens.all was going well until two days ago, when the hens started brutally fighting, have to separate them now, with one out freeranging the other in the barn. don't understand this since they have always been together with no problem. could this just be a temporary thing? separated them the first night and thought they would forget their differences by morning, but no such luck, they went at it again. hate to have to knock one off since they are both laying well, but can't have them together. is this normal when they get to a certain age, or what? laura cavallari

well they have settled down now and i have put them back togther. don't know what the problem was, but they are cooing to each other again and all is well.tom seemed to be oblivious to the whole situation, so at least i know that he wasn't the instigator. they are so sweet, wish everyone could realize that looks are not all that important. i love my turkeys. am waiting for their eggs to hatch out of the neighbors incubator. hope it works out, this is new to me. thanks for your concern, laura
