CA - Voltage dips briefly across Inland areas

Thousands of VCR clocks were blinking Friday after a momentary glitch in the power grid of the San Jacinto Valley and southwest Riverside County.

Southern California Edison spokesman Tom Boyd said there was a brief voltage dip at 3:54 p.m. Friday in one of the company's circuits.

"It affected a wide area of the Inland Empire," he said. "We don't know what the cause was. For the most part it was confined to knocking out sensitive electronic equipment and computers."

Affected areas ranged from Moreno Valley to the San Jacinto Valley to the Temecula area, he said.

In San Jacinto, the voltage dip also knocked out a traffic light at Sanderson and the Ramona Expressway, though the city's other lights appeared to be functioning, according to a police dispatcher.
