Can Someone Explain Why Gas is $1.65/gal?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

Maybe I'm a dope, but I just don't get it. I am a news junkie, and I read most of what the press puts out, (for better or worse.) Yet I still can't seem to put together an explanation for the price at the pumps.

But I am confident that many of my old pals here can make it clear for me.

$crude + $refining + $transport + $retail + $taxes....

Will that be ALL sir?

semper, are you complaining about the high cost of 1.65 or rejoicing because it is a low figure? $1.65 is GREAT!, after months of 1.7s to 1.83. I saw an all time low today of 1.56, in an out of the way station. I was amazed.

Will, you forgot +Profits!

OOOh I should have defined my terms, there is a $profit component in each term, except taxes. The definition within taxes is open for the user to define.
