This is a photomicrograph of a pinhead-sized pyrrhotite (iron sulfide) crystal from my mineral collection. The actual color of the mineral is bronze but this crystal shows an interesting irridescent tarnish at particular incident light angles. This image was taken with my Olympus OM-G, OM T-mount, and Reichert stereo microscope. The subject is illuminated with a fiber optic illuminator using a halogen lamp. The film is Kodak Ektachrome 160T (tungsten).

There are many more images of this kind on my web site: members.aol.com/cyrtolite/Index.htm.

Long live photography!
