Yahoo! Sports: MLB - Toronto at Seattle Game Recap

July 28, 2000

SEATTLE (TICKER) -- Playing without injured right fielder Raul Mondesi and faced with a 17-minute power outage at Safeco Field, the Toronto Blue Jays still had plenty of juice left to defeat the Seattle Mariners.

Pinch-hitter Todd Greene singled in two runs during a five-run seventh inning and Esteban Loaiza tossed seven strong innings as the Blue Jays snapped an eight-game drought against the Mariners with a 7-2 victory.

A computer malfunction resulted in the delay in the bottom of the third inning but the Blue Jays supplied sufficient power with a 16-hit attack. They more than made up for the absence of Mondesi, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with an injured right elbow prior to the game.

It was the second delay in the past week for the Mariners, who sat through a 54-minute rain delay Saturday when the retractable roof atop Safeco Field failed to close.

First, it's the roof -- now Safeco's lights go out

At 8:04 p.m., the lights in the areas around
third base, left field and center field
went dark. Some parts of the concourse area
were also without power.
