The Doomers were right... world slipping into recession

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

Businesses tried to stall it off as long as possible using crooked accounting tactics, but at some point the bills had to be paid, and now they can blame it on interest rates. Inflation is skyrocketing because of the tremendous costs of fixing Y2K.

The DOW and The Nikkei are right back where they were in April 99, almost 16 months ago. The party of denial about the dot.com scam is over, the Nasdaq hasn't made a dime all year and is going belly up.

Andy Gay and Creeper are full of shit, Ed Yourdon and Gary North called it well, like the prophets that they are. Congratulations doomers, we were right!!

Hang on baby, the big crash and depression will be coming soon. It's time to weed out the scum-sucking trash like Creeper, only the strong survive!

Hawk--

Is this really you or is this a plant by Andy Ray that he will use in quotably quoted #9897 next March?

-- Lars (lars@indy.net), July 28, 2000.

Andy Gay will be standing on a street corner in Frisco next March trying to sell his ass. Since no one will want a piece, his monkey with a music box will make more money than him. LOL! :-)

-- Hawk (flyin@hi.again), July 28, 2000.

Hawk, can you suggest a timeline on how you think the market will play out?

Gee, Hasn't anyone noticed that Andy has been quite reasonable lately? Or am I missing something here? Please note his very kind words to 'sumer on her last thread. He has not been posting on a daily basis as he promised originally. Cannot we give Andy a break? It seems to me he has been willing and he has shown his true colors as a human being. Is there no forgiveness in your collective hearts? People change, and usually for the better. Who among you is willing to do the same? Accept and change, is that not what life offers on a daily basis? Time for change folks. What will you do today?

-- Aunt Bee (Aunt__Bee@hotmail.com), July 28, 2000.

gator girl,

Gradually worsening recession until the election. Shrubya and Dick will be elected, they'll bomb Iraq again just like Daddy did. The oil and defense industries will do well, but the rest of the economy will go down the shitter into depression by early next year. The Internet will be a wasteland of failed businesses, bankruptcy and unemployment will soar.

If you live in Florida, better head for the mountains, the monster hurricanes are brewing in the warm oceans. Good luck honey, catch ya later allie-gator!

Inflation is skyrocketing because of the tremendous costs of fixing Y2K.

I don't think the real Hawk would have used this argument. I say it's a troll.

Hawk, could you please spare us your illiterate sermons (and make sure you send Gary North your $150.00 for your subscription renewal to Remnant Review).

-- J Lyttle (boys@dont.dance), July 28, 2000.

Is this the same Hawk who insists he has an IQ of 142? Giggle...

-- Y2K Pro (y2kpro1@hotmail.com), July 28, 2000.

Its IQ is POINT 142.

-- Henry Pat (HenryPat@ConspiraciesRus.edu), July 28, 2000.

Hawk, I'm going to call you on this prediction: Shrubya and Dick will be elected. I think it's going to be the algore unit and as yet unnamed sub unit because of women's vote, specially the pro choice and family concerns. From what I'm hearing, Shrubya isn't reaching a lot of the Midwestern working women in the 30 - 50 year-old bracket.

Just for the record, I don't like either Shrub or Algore. This is just how I think it's going to play out.

I don't have a clue about Hawk, but there is a probability that his scenario will occur. What that probability is .... who knows?

If I was forced to bet I would say the probabilty of this crash would be around 20%.

"Definitely one of the most pessimistic individuals I have ever crossed paths with."

On the contrary, I am listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as one of the top 10 Most Optimistic People in the World.

You see, I even believe that a massive stock market crash and a severe economic depression can be a very positive experience. Look at it this way... when people like Andy Gay and Creeper can survive and maybe even make a decent living without ever doing anything constructive, there is something wrong with our world. A "correction" is needed to cleanse the planet of the useless, cowardly, destructive, sexually-transmitted diseases on the ass of civilization that individuals such as they represent.

I think an economic collapse will help re-establish the basic principles of life that are necessary to ensure that the human race will evolve as God intended, "survival of the fittest."

Don't let fear color your perspective, you need to see the truth in order to know what is best for humanity. Elimination of BAD things is a GOOD thing. See how optimistic I am?! :-)

-- Hawk (flyin@hi.again), July 28, 2000.

Hawk:

Do you really worry about all the topics of which you post, or do you just kindof follow things [like a hobby?] I got out of the market in July of 1998. I don't like to worry about things, and it had been doing a zig-zag for quite a while by that time. It would have to go a LOT lower to encourage me to get back in, not to mention demonstrate some stability. Folks who chose to take the risk made a lot more money than I did, but I liked the progress my portfolio had made, and I'm getting too old to suffer the losses I took in the early 80's. If the market goes down, I'll make more money in CD's.

Back to my question, do you REALLY worry about this stuff?

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), July 28, 2000.

Good, then we can rid the planet of creeps like North, Cory, and good ol' Ed! I doubt if any of them could correctly predict that the sun will rise in the east every morning! BTW, study up on economics..... that way you'll avoid sounding like the fool you must love to be.

-- Rob (celtic64@inficad.com), July 28, 2000.

Lol Anita! I don't worry about myself too much, and don't even fear death much anymore. I am concerned though for the innocent people who are being victimized by the greedy and powerful in our society. Many live a life of illusion through no fault of their own, and when the illusion is shattered they may have difficulty finding their way back to true happiness.

As for investing, I think you were wise to get out when you did. The only reason it hasn't collapsed already is because of sheer greed and denial. It has been risky to be in stocks for the last several years. I like gambling on certain things when it is pure and natural chance, but not when others are controlling the outcome of the game.

-- Hawk (flyin@hi.again), July 29, 2000.

LOL! Good one Rob... "BTW, study up on economics..... that way you'll avoid sounding like the fool you must love to be."

That's what people usually say when they don't know jack about a subject... they tell the OTHER person to "study up." ROTFL!!

I have a substantial amount of college-level education in Economics, but even without it, I think I know more than you do. Why don't you point out to all of us where I'm wrong, "Mr. Economics Smarty-Pants"!! Lol!! :-)

-- Hawk (flyin@hi.again), July 29, 2000.

Hawk, you wouldn't know "economics" from cooking. You "generalize" about everything you state. You take one or two "examples" as the general case and then treat only the worst case scenarios of that.

Get a clue, that is not life. The idea of one set of Masterminds "controlling" and "manipulating" anything is BULL SHIT. While the Press pays attention to Dot Coms going up 10 times in a few months then crashing to five cents on the dollar, there are still stocks and portfolios that have tripled from 1995 and only come down 10-20% from the highs. So when the owners look at their net worth instead of 300% gain they ONLY have 250% in five years.

IF you really have any "courage of your convictions" you would be 100% short or even more with all your assets in selected PUTS.

But you're like the Gary Norths and MacElvaneys of the world, all DOOM TALK. And like him, ALL BULL SHIT. In all your cases, even a "stopped clock" is not necessarily right twice a day. Its only right for ONE SECOND every 12 hours.

-- cpr (buytexas@swbell.net), July 29, 2000.

Give it up cpr-you're arguing with someone who "knows what he knows".

Hawk is credible, and Y2k killed millions of people who failed to prepare. *VBG*

I am...

Hawk has a point. Anyone interested in who controls it all, check and go from there.
