supported features of 380EX when used with EOS300 (Rebel 2000)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Since I find official Canon information about this topic a little bit confusing, I would very much appreciate if someone can explain what features of Canon Speedlite 380EX can be used with Canon EOS300 (Rebel 2000). I am reffering especially to features like Flash Exposure Compensation and Second curtain sync.

I'd presume that if these functions are present on the camera, they'll work with the 380ex. The 380ex itself of course has no way to set 2nd curtain sync or FEC so you have to do it with the attached body.

You can't do flash exposure compensation, one reason why I bought a 550EX. I know flash exposure lock (FEL) is supported, and I think that you can use high speed sync (set on the flash), but I don't think you can do second curtain sync.

Well, sort of a combination of Bob's, and Steve's answers. The flash is fully compatible with all of the features the camera has. This includes E-TTL metering and FP high speed sync for sure. Not sure about second curtain or FE Lock, but if they are supported by the camera, they are by the 380EX. FE Compensation is not supported since the flash has no manual controls for it, and the camera has no control for it. This is the main reason I haven't bought a Rebel 2000 as a backup camera, since it is the feature I use most with flash on my Elan IIe/380EX combo.

Thank you all for your quick responses. Just to summarise: it turned out that Second curtain sync and Flash Exposure compensation are not supported, while E-TTL metering, FP high speed sync and FE Lock are supported. Thanks again.
