What the future holds.....

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

I was wondering what everyone hopes to see over the next 4 years?? I personally hope that this next season is a bit more upbeat. I would like to watch Er this season and laugh a little. I miss that. I hope that they concentrate on building friendships. I can see Carter and Dr.Dave hanging out, the new & younger Ross/Green. I also hope they have lots of scenes with Carter and Benton together. And I hope Corday and Green stay together, it's nice having at least one stable relationship on the show. I hope Cleo's history soon.(sorry if that offends anyone). I would like to see Weaver have a love interest as long as it's not Carter. eewww... I would like to see poor Luka find someone. I'm not real sure on the rest of them, what do ya guys think?????

-- Renee (slinne32@aol.com), July 24, 2000

A Carter/Malucci/Chen friendship would be fun to watch! I would also like to see Benton become more involved in his son's upbringing. Kerry needs to have a love life and so does Luka - maybe the two....naahhh!! LOL

-- anne (sapphire_172@hotmail.com), July 25, 2000.

Luka & Kerry would be great together, IMO, and if TPTB wouldn't screw it up, we could actually see a Great Romance on the show between two strong, mature people, rather than a pair of whiny brats or Drs. NyQuil. It could happen. Kerry needs a fellow Alpha wolf. JMO!

Carter/Kerry...ewww! Like watching a woman make out with her son. I don't care what happens with Peter. Mark needs to lighten up (or have life lighten up on him a little). It'd be nice to see Carter get into a stable relationship with a nice girl some day, settle down, get married, etc. I'm not very interested in Malucci, but if he could be a good buddy to Luka & Carter, that'd be nice, too. Chen can just go, please. I'm willing to give poor Cleo the benefit of the doubt.

-- Miesque (miesque@looksmart.com), July 25, 2000.

I think Kerry/Luka would be disgusting to watch. Kerry deserves a romance, but with someone who is much better than Luka. Luka is not ready for a romance with anyone. I think Carter/Kerry would make a great couple after Carter recovers more from the ordeal he went through last season. ER should concentrate on friendships next season not romances. The couples they do have don't work all that well together. I want to see the comaderie back that ER used to have. I think we need less angst next season.

-- Deb (johncarterfan@aol.com), July 25, 2000.

Well I want to see more friendships and fun on the show. And I don't want them killing off anymore characters.

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), July 25, 2000.

NO KERRY & LUKA! No! No! No! I could not bear to watch that. Kerry needs a lovelife that is in the background. I don't want to watch her in any passionate scenes. That just does not fit the characters personality. Luka needs to get with someone who is not a main character but someone that we see outside the ER. I think it would be nice to see that these people have lives outside of their profession.

I would also enjoy seeing Mark & Liz tie the knot & start a family. Could you imagine a pregnant Lizzie? I think she would be so out of her element it would be hilarious but I think that she would be an excellent mom. Can you imagine the interaction between her & Romano if she was "in the family way"?

I'd like to at least "hear" how Jeannie & Reg & the baby are doing. Maybe Jeannie's husband could pass thru the er sometimes.

I truly expect something off the wall to happen w/Dr. Dave's character. God - what if he is a competent Doctor?

Carter & Benton will probably continue the way they are but hopefully happier now that their friendship has been reinforced.

These are my opinions! Can't wait to hear ya'lls. (Yes - I am from Atlanta. That was a plural form of Ya'll.)

-- Linda (l.brown@mindspring.com), July 25, 2000.

Thank GOD. I was beginning to think that everyone thought it'd be a good idea to stick Luka and Kerry together. The very thought makes me shiver. Ick.

-- JLS (ewwhatevr@aol.com), July 25, 2000.

The evidence is there, IMO, that Kerry & Luka might get together. She certainly treats him differently from the other staff members. I still think it'd be great.

Now Carter & Kerry *would* be disgusting...ick.

-- miesque (miesque@looksmart.com), July 25, 2000.

I agree... no Luka and Kerry!!! I too would like to see Luka in a relationship with someone OUTside the ER!! I think it would be neat for him to meet a fellow Croatian to start dating. I also would like to see Carter/Chen/Malucci as friends (and rivals). I would like to see Elizabeth and Mark remain together and maybe get married. I can foresee that if she would get pregnant, maybe Romano would discriminate against her and that could be a storyline. I also want Benton and Carter's relationship to grow. I don't want anymore romances between doctors - more friendships, but no romances!

-- amanda (amanda.rehm@home.com), July 25, 2000.

Kerry/Luka : Yuck, Yuck, Yuck. I would love to see Carter/Kerry get together, but I could settle for them to both get relationships outside the ER as long as they became good friends. I agree that the ER needs more friendship. I want to see Carter happy next season. I had hoped they would have gotten rid of at least Cleo/Chen over the summer. I just hope they don't have any more screen time than they did last season. Same with Luka, Dave, and Romano though I know we will get more screentime for Luka . I just hope it is not too much more than he got last season. I would love to see Romano get in trouble for something next season.

-- Brenda (jckwfan@aol.co,), July 25, 2000.

What have you got against Luka, exactly? The accent, the hair, the looks, the fact that he's new (maybe taking time away from Carter-and actually, I could deal with that; I like Carter, but I got kind of burned out on him in season six)? I certainly hope it's not because he's from another country... We all have our favorite characters, but I'm beginning to think the lady doth protest too much re: Luka.

Yep. We're gonna be seeing a *lot* of Luka. Might as well get used to it. And I *really* hope Luka & Kerry get together. Let Carter & Kerry be friends-that's fine. But they have no romantic chemistry. Nil. He's just not right for her at all. She needs an Alpha, and Carter just isn't an Alpha, IMO.

-- Miesque (miesque@looksmart.com), July 25, 2000.

My Mom is french. I have nothing against Luka because he is from another country. No need for you to imply things. I just don't find the guy all that interesting of a character. I don't think Goran is all that good looking. I've liked Luka less as the season went on. Maybe I will like him more next season. I see plenty of chemistry between Carter/Kerry. I'm not the only one. I don't see any between Kerry/Luka . I think Luka's next female has rebound written all over it. Kerry is my favorite female character and she deserves better. I don't consider Luka as competition for Carter or anything like that. That is not the reason why I don't care for him at this point. Also, I've noticed from your post here and elsewhere that you say you like Carter, but yet I've noticed that you knock Carter/Noah every chance you get. Free country. There is nothing wrong with that. However just because I( not the only one on this topic) don't agree with you on who Kerry should date does not mean that you should imply that there is anything wrong with my opinions and that I have biased or predudical reasons behing my opinion. I don't do that with your post no matter how much I may disagree with you. I say Different strokes for different folks. We should all be able to state are opinions , but not make it personal on who disagrees with you.

-- Brenda (jckwfan@aol.com), July 25, 2000.

I kinda figured you'd react this way. I wasn't saying you were prejudiced. In fact, I was hoping you *aren't*. And since you *aren't*...

When exactly did I knock Noah/Carter? :) I have nothing against him. Is it terrible of me to be kind of tired of him? That doesn't mean that I don't like Carter. I just got a little burned out, that's all- overkill. I like Luka better-I've never been a huge Carter fan and never will be. But as you said...different strokes for different folks.

And from what I've seen so far, you've done nothing but put Luka down. So far, I've never said that I wanted to be rid of Carter or make him a recurring character. Yet you seem think Luka is "holier than thou" (I seem to recall Carter nearly killing a patient in "May Day" and no one knocked him for that...; and Elizabeth threatened to let Dean Rollins bleed to death. Isn't that kinda "holier than thou"? Maybe she should go back to England, eh? *G*) and that he should go back to Croatia to practice medicine. That just seems a little prejudicial to me. Eh... So you don't like him. That isn't going to diminish my enjoyment of Luka. I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree and leave it at that. Not like we have any power over TPTB.

-- Miesque (miesque@looksmart.com), July 25, 2000.

I'd definitely like to see more character development. More friendshipes, definitely, and also I'd like those jokes and stuff. Like the first few seasons had all those funny scenes and stuff. I miss those. i think ER should keep it's seriousness, but also mix in a bit MORE humour. I've never like Luka, but I don't have much against him. I just don't want him stealing the show from others. They should give him more chances to show his medical skills. Oh and being the medical freak i am ("but at age 15?" my brother says) i'd personally like to see lots of medicine. i like the character stuff but don't turn ER into a soap opera! please!! one aspects that made ER popular at first was probably the "heart stopping" action in the traumas, the fast pace at which the long medical jargon was exchanged between doctors and nurses. Well thats' what got me interested. I loved the medical part of ER before i got to know the people of ER. I could see Weaver having a love interest; it might help build her character's story. Oh and what about her real parents? Or maybe we could have a little bit of insight into the reason of her relying on a crutch?

-- Emily (watchinger@home.com), July 25, 2000.

I've read your post at mightbigtv.com for example where you have knocked Carter/Noah at times. I've gotten the same opinion on the newsgroup. Like I said. I really don't care. Different strokes for different folks. I don't get upset with you when you say whether you like or dislike something. I did not get upset where in three different post on this thread you refer to a Carter/Kerry pairing as disgusting , eww, and one more similar descriptive term for thier pairing. However, just because I say I don't care for Luka or disagree with who Kerry should go out with and because I said Kerry/Luka would be yuck, you ask me me if I don't like him because he is a foreigner etc. You got upset because I said in my post that I hoped Luka did not get too much more screen time next season. There was nothing wrong with that. I was stating my opinion. I said notthing slanderous about Goran or Luka. Yes,Carter and Kerry are my favorite characters so I will discuss them more than other characters like Luka is yours. Therefore, I expect most of your post are going to be Luka/Goran related. Like I said different strokes for different folks.

I started thinking Luka would be okay when the season started and would be a good addition. As the season wore on, I started liking him less. I did not care for Dave too much. However, as the season wore on I found myself more interested in Dave than Luka. Dave was more interesting as a character to me. I like him being the cocky, fun loving guy who was not supposed to be the best. I thouight they gave Dave the right amount of scrteen time. Luka, on the other hand , started to bore me . I started not liking how he acted at times and the attitude he had. I did not like the whole Carol/Luka thing. No, I'm not a huge Carol fan. Maybe, I will him better next season. I hoping I do since he will be on the show for the next couple of years.

-- Brenda (jckwfan@aol.com), July 25, 2000.

Well I have said plenty of times that I want them to focus on commeradery and more humor. The "comic atmosphere" has changed since the first few seasons, does anyone agree? It's still funny, but not in the same way as the old Mark/Susan/Doug/Carol/Carter/Benton/Jeanne humor. I also want lots of Carter support. I want to see him nervous at first...dealing with everyone's reactions, becoming confident again, etc. I also want to see him happy again and let everyone appreciate how much they missed the old Carter. And I am a huge Carter/Malucchi/Deb advocate...Carter and Malucchi could have a brotherly/competitive relationship like Doug and Mark had. I would also enjoy a Benton/Carter friendship, Carter/Mark friendship (I obviously am NOT burnt out of Carter :) ), and maybe even a Benton/Elizabeth friendship...but I DO want Elizabeth and Mark together still. Maybe get married soon...although Carter is the one I want married and starting a family by the end of the show...and since this Sherry Stringfield rumor (which I don't think I really believe anymore) I would LOVE for her to come back and romance an older Carter. NO Carter/Kerry or Luka/Kerry!...give her some mysterious guy like Mlungisi. Malucchi needs a good "turning point". I still wish Luka could find his long lost family did not really die in the war...though that is too soap opera-ish, I woudl love for him to be with them again. Abby needs to be like she was in Great Expectations. Cleo, I don't mind, but she needs something interesting FAST.

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), July 25, 2000.

Upset? LOL! When did I get upset? I'm quite calm. *G* And I really don't recall saying anything mean or slanderous against Carter/Noah (evidence, please), whom I *do* like-both the character and the actor- (how many times do I have to reiterate that point?), but I'm not enamoured of him-and have never asked that he be off the show or have his screen time reduced (though, like you re: Luka, I probably wouldn't mind all that much). You're not enamoured of Luka. So? Carter just started to bore me. I think the lady doth protest too much (again).

Actually, Carter started to bore (and vaguely annoy) me when he got into the Elaine Nichols thing. Even more icky than the idea of Kerry & Carter, to be honest. Something very...ugh...about that whole storyline. (And remember-you used the word 'yuck' a few times above, re: Luka & Kerry) And, in my opinion, Luka and Kerry WOULD be great together. I'll stick to that. You stick to Carter/Kerry. I don't care. Like I said before, it's out of our hands and entirely our opinion. Nothing more.

Maybe it was the 'sneaky' looking nose (maybe that was it at MBTV- remember different strokes for different folks? I haven't been over to MBTV's message board in a long time)? Come on! I don't find Wyle very attractive, personally (you don't think Visjnic is good-looking, right?). Ten years ago I might have been in love with him, but my tastes have definitely changed since then. I used to crazy about Christian Slater, but now...ugh. What was I thinking?!

Anyway, I disagree with you, you disagree with me, and that cancels us both out, eh? Stick to your guns, and I'll stick to mine, but until either one of us becomes a writer for "ER", it's beyond our control. All we can do is watch TPTB screw it up anyway.

-- Miesque (miesque@looksmart.com), July 26, 2000.

I think you refuse to realize that you started the whole thing in this whole thread. Maybe, it is you who does protest too much. I would have only stated my opinion once if you had not asked me why I did not care for Luka and implied that I had some predudical reason for it. It was you who questioned why I did not like someone and implied stuff , not the other way around. It was me who originally said different strokes for different folks on this thread. I was just at the MBTV board a few days a go and you you have posted comments within the past few weeks. I'm not going to get into what you say there other that there have been numerous post there where you've commented on your perceived notion that Noah has limited acting range. Comments that we see Carter in every non Carter role he does etc. Of course you always point out why Goran or Luka is so much better. Fine. Go right ahead. However, you should be able to accept that other people will disagree with you and have thier own opinions. I think it was wrong to imply that there was something wrong with my intentions because you disagreed with my opinions. I may have been wrong to mention opinions I've gotten from post you have written at other boards here. For that I will apologise. However, I will not apologise for defending myself when you tried to make it personal. I was wrong to make it a bit personal in my response. I apologise to the other readers wo have had to read the past few back and forth responses on this matter. I should have just ignored her second or third post where she tried to turn things a bit personal. i'm soory again to all you fellow posters for posting too much in this topic and responding more than I should have

-- Brenda (jckwfan@aol.com), July 26, 2000.

Now that you guys have gotten that out of your systems, I'd like to suggest that for future posts, if folks want to debate, do it directly to each other's e-mail addresses and not clutter up the public forum.

-- Linda (l.brown@mindspring.com), July 26, 2000.

Okay. I think we all need to just take a deep breath and calm down a little here. Yes we have our own opinions but what good is it to argue about it back and forth over and over again? I said in another thread that I like Lucy and was mad that others didn't. Well there's nothing I can do to change peoples mind just like you can't change their minds eitheir. So in the words of Cheri O'Teri(sp?) from "Saturday Night Live" -"Simmer down now." I not trying to be mean. Sorry if I sound mean. I'm just trying to calm things down here before someone says something to someone that she or he may end up regreting.

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), July 26, 2000.

Brenda, your e-mail seems to imply you're a Carter/Kerry fan, but I'd have a hard time believing it, since you spend so much time dissing Luka. I've seen your messages all over the internet (I assume you're Carterfan at MBTV, right?) wherein you can find almost nothing complimentary to say about Visnjic (he's boring, he's 'holier-than- thou', blah blah blah, same old same old). I've noticed Miesque has never dissed Carter (or wanted him off the show, for that matter)-in fact, she praises him and says very nice things about him. Gee, could it be that she actually likes him, but not as much as she likes Luka? Could that actually happen!? Heaven forbid! LOL! She just had an opinion that Noah Wyle isn't as talented at Goran Visnjic. She does have a right to an opinion that is contrary to yours, right?

And yeah-I'm yet another Kerry/Luka proponent! Kerry and Carter would just be terrible and contrived. I would have accepted such a plot in season five (where there was a window of opportunity-him living in her basement, but even then they didn't click, IMO), but so far as the characters have been written in season six, I really can't imagine they'd ever get together. Kerry and Luka would be fun to watch. They're what I'd call 'compatible opposites'

-- Pamela (stormcat_2001@yahoo.com), July 26, 2000.

Miesque has certainly done her share of "dissing" when it comes to Carol and Doug.

Brenda's comments toward Luka are certainly far less hostile than Miesque's of Doug and Carol.

-- frances christine (lghtmycndl@aol.com), July 26, 2000.

Gee, I didn't know this was a discussion about Carol and Doug. I thought it was about Carter and Luka...

-- Pamela (stormcat_2001@yahoo.com), July 26, 2000.

Besides that, like I said before, everybody has a right to an opinion. If Miesque doesn't like Doug and Carol, that's her business. If it's okay for Brenda to diss Luka, then by inference it's okay for Miesque to diss Doug and Carol. Right? And I've noticed nothing but hostility from Brenda toward Luka, but since this is a Carter/Luka debate, it should be pointed that Miesque has never been hostile toward *Carter*, has she? But, of course, Brenda has every right to her opinion.

I wasn't overly fond of Doug and Carol myself.

-- Pamela (stormcat_2001@yahoo.com), July 26, 2000.

My point was that if she can blast Doug and Carol, then why should she accuse Brenda of being overly negative toward Luka when she does the same with other characters.

For the record, I myself enjoy Luka far more than Carter. I'm not big on Carter neither. And I wouldn't want to see EITHER of them with Kerry. BOTH thoughts are a "yuck" in my b

-- JLS (ewwhatevr@aol.com), July 26, 2000.

Yes. Everyone has a right to express their opinions on which characters they like and dislike . Thet have right to discuss which actors they think are the best actors. I don't consider myself hostile towards GV. Why would I be hostile against him. I think he is a pretty good actor. I just hyave not 3armed up to his character on ER. Maybe, I will in the future. I 've said I don't think that he is that attractive. There's nothing wrong with that. We all have different taste in people. T'm sure plenty of people might find many of the people I find attractive not to be as attractive. Among my family and friends we all have difference of opinions.

Lets get back to the post at hand. I don't believe I sais anything bad or slanderous about GV in my post original or any subsequent post here. I simply stated that I hope Luka as well as a few other characters did not get too much screen time next season. I mentioned I was against a Kerry/Luka pairing asa few other people mentioned. I admit I may have went over board with the use of the yuck. One yuck would have been suffiecient or maybe I should have used the word disgusting, ewww or ick as some poster used previosly. For that I apoligised. I also apologised for referring to other mB hear and my interpretations of that post. I should have just ignored the post or not responded while still upset by her post when I thought she was implying things for which she has apologised for. I ended up implying things to thgat should not have said. I hope that this whole thing can be dropped now and we can go back to discussing ER and its characters. I'm sorry to everyone for having to listen to this and hope there are no hard feelings. There are certainly none on my end.

-- Brenda (jckwfan@aol.com), July 26, 2000.

PS - Before people start getting confused, the post with Frances' name is really mine. She's at work with me and I was on the phone and had her hit "submit" for me....apparently out of habit, she typed in her own name and email since she posts here as well. sno

-- JLS (ewwhatevr@aol.com), July 26, 2000.

Why don't we get back to the discusion at hand. This was supposed to be about what the future holds. That means all characters can be discussed. I have seen almost everyone here say which characters or couples they would like to see or not see on the show. They have mentioned what they as individuals would like to see on ER. A majority of people here have used words such as ick, disgusting, ew, yuck etc. to describe couple that they are not interested in seeing. That is not a slam against the the actors who portray the characters. Some people have mentioned that they don't care for a certain character so much or don't want them to have more screen time. How is that a slam against the actor who portrays that person. I've seen my favorite actors/actress play characters which I did not particulary care for. I was not afraid to say something. That does not mean by virtue of me either being critical or saying I did not care for the character that I now don't like the actor.

We all have are favorites on ER. Some may love the show as a whole without having a particular favorites. We all watch ER for different reasons. We should all be able to discuss ER and talk about what is important to us in regards to the show. We all have characters which we want to see more, less,or the same on ER. We should all be able to discuss which characters we like and dislike without it starting to get personal where one or more parties get upset with another over each other opinions. That can lead to a situation where a person may imply something about another person whether they meant to or not. It is not uncommen for a person to respond back when they feel that they were being personally attacked for stating a opinion that they thought was not offensive or anymore harsh than previous posts on the topics. I personally don't think anyone post here was initially too harsh. Just people stating their opinions. It did get out of hand later on after it kinda got a bit personal IMHO.

As for next season, I don't think there should be any emphasis on romance. I think Carter/Kerry could be a decent match. It could be interesting. Don't know about Kerry/Luka because I really have not thought about them in that way before. I also don't know Luka all that well. His character needs to be fleshed out some more( as do the other new characters) before I can get a clearer idea of who I would like to see him with. I still think the show would be better suited to pursue more friendships and interaction among staff members instead of romance. I think most of the characters are in need of more friends. I hope that the staff coming together in the finale to help Carter is foreshadowing of there being a more concentration on friendship next season. Characters such as Carter, Luka, Kerry , and Abby all appear to need more friendships on the show.

-- Alice (TAP4321@aol.com), July 26, 2000.

Thank you Alice! That really needed to be said! Since noone listened to my last post maybe they'll listen to you.

-- Cammie (rmaelhorn@home.com), July 26, 2000.

I definately want to see some "fun" in the ER next season; something less serious. As for in the future, I'd like Lizzie and Mark to get married, maybe have a child together. If we're talking about matches, I think Jing-mei and Dave would be a cute couple, or else I'd like them to be good friends. I also think it's high time Kerry got a love interest; I think Luka would be good for her, or else I'd prefer someone outside the ER. I loved when they paired her up with Ellis West. I hope that Benton and Carter build on their friendship, and that Carter can finally find someone he really loves.

-- Samira (matb_west@chickmail.com), July 27, 2000.

I loved Kerry with Ellis. I don't think he was using Kerry as she thought. He backed out of the deal at the end because of Kerry. I agree that Kerry needs a romance . I think they should pair her with someone outside the ER or Carter. I don't think we will see Kerry in a romance though. They never seem to give her one. I agree with the others who thinks the show could use more frienship next season. I know this is a drama, but I would like to see some of the characters happy some next season. Preferably characters like Mark and Carter who had a lot of angst last season.
