need names for white belted cows

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hi! A little fun question here. We are about to buy some buelingo cows. (one cow w/heifer calf at side, and 2 yearling heifers). They are all black with a wide white belt around their middle. They will be the start of our herd, which will only be about 8 cows, since our pasture is limited. I am looking for some funky names suitable for my mew black and white belted pets. Any suggestions? Thanks all.

"Eclipse","Half n half","50/50","Harmony","Cookie" (as in a black and white New York deli favorite),"Double Dip","Panda Cow",and "Sylvester".....I never have been able to talk any human into naming their baby "Lesley"..so four of my Amish friends each named a cow after me....when the tourists see the names on the barn stalls, I'm right up there with Daisy,Bossy,Sally,Esther,etc....perhaps this is a trend..might you consider Lesley????LOL..this could spread across the farming community and give me my 15 minutes of fame someday when some curious person in the future researches this oddity...God Bless.

Kim, what are buelingo cows? I've never heard of them!

Kim,

I'm also curious about this breed. I don't think I've heard of them. We have belted galloways. I've also seen dutch belted. Do you have a link to a site with a picture?

Thanks for the names, folks. Panda-cow and Moonpie are on the "definite" list. Oreo is a possability, and my son casts a strong vote for Lesley! Buelingo cattle were developed by Russel Bueling of Sheldon, ND about 15 years ago. Pretty sure they are a dual purpose breed. I'm sure they have some belted galloway and angus in them. Something else too, but I'm not sure what. A neighbor of ours, (20 miles away is a 'neighbor' if North Dakota), has had some buelingos that came from Russel Bueling about 10 years ago. Every time we would drive by his place and see those beautiful, sleek belted cows, I fell more and more in love with them. In the spring, the little belted babies jumping around really pulled at my heartstrings! So this year, when I found out that the neighbor was selling out, I figured it was time to sweet talk my poor husband into a couple of cows. We pick them up in just a couple of days. I am so excited!! Thanks, everyone for the help with the names.

Why not "Matthew, Mark, Luke and John?" We'd named our rabbits that one year..just a thought...
