I am not able to play back any audio CD which is recrded using HP CD-WRITER plus on my DVD player.

Hehe, there's 3 people on the board that are having problems with the Sony s360 (including me). What I've discovered so far and I'm sure people have already figured it out but aren't helping=] is cdr's just don't work. It doesn't recognized it. I've tried cdrw's, but only 80 min ones as you can see in my post like 4 down from this. I'm thinking the only thing it could be is the size, so I'm going to try 74 min cdrw's and see what happens. Good luck.

I think you must use Nero Burning Rom too as someone said in an earlier post.

Which brand of blank CDR media are you using?

I too had that same stressfull problem with my PIONEER "fussy" DVD COMBI PLAYER. But after trying dozens of cdr brands- and wasting huge amounts of my hard earned dosh- i finally found a CDR brand that works perfect:-

SONY CDR's work perfect for vcd playback!!!!

Will they work on yours?

You need save the vcd on cd-rw. Saludos

I am having the same troubles... in the Sony manual it does note that CDR's are NOT compatible...

Currently I am trying to get CDRW's to work and no having any luck with them either (but at least in the manual it doesn't say they won't work).

OK I finally got my 360 to play a jpg slide show... here is what I used and a few key settings:

use a CDRW media (CDR's will not work no matter what brand, check your manual page 5 - it states no CDR)

Nero 5.0.1.3 Choose "Video CD"

under file options: ISO level 1 ISO 9660 checked allow more than 8 directories checked allow more than 255 characters in path

Under Burn: check disc at once

I think the most important setting was the disc at once option, make sure it is checked... Maybe it's because of my burner being an ACER 8x4x32 I dunno.

The above settings worked for me and played on my sony DVP-S360 dvd player.

Hope this helps all.... I have been trying for 3 weeks to get this to work and it finally did last night using the above settings.

John

Here we go again. NO RECENT SONY DVD SET-TOP WILL RELIABLY READ CD-R MEDIA! Sony made very sure of that to make life for us VCD enthusiasts difficult. CD-RW maybe, but even this is sketchy. The only good thing that we should all do IS BOYCOTT SONY DVD-TOPS. At least the latest generation players. This matter has been grounded to bts for all that it is worth in the older messages category in this forum. It would do everyone well, me ncluded, to peruse that section first.

I saw on an electronics site they are amking a mod chip for DVD players so you can play zone 1 and zone 2 CDs on your DVD player. I don't know if this info helped or not but i hope so. Good Luck ^_^

That's why it doesn't work:

CD-R have a Blue-Green Surface that is readable by most CD and PC- DVD Drives. That's because the CD players and PC-DVD use a Yellow laser beam to pick up data from the CD. But TV-DVD uses a Red laser instead of the yellow to pick data, and Red is not well enough reflected in Blue-Green CDs. CD-RW are Golden-Silver, and Red laser beam can be reflected on it. You must not have any problems using CD- RW in your DVP-S360 (but i still cant make them run in mine :C)

I tried CC_RW on my Sont S360. It works all the time. I have tried various brand names. If they are CD-RW's they work. CD-R's dont work on the Sony S360

I dont know if this will do anything but while your s360 is in standby mode, from the remote press title, then clear, then power. It will open up a menu. If anyone can figure out how to "tweak" any of those controls, please let me know. Hope this is helpful.

I have Sony DVD Player DVP-S360. It does not play 80 Min CD, so I purchased 74 min Maxell CD-R and created VCD on them, but it does not work. I am able to play only 74 min CD-RW. Anybody knows the solution or workaround to play 74 min CD-R

Go to www.dvdrhelp.com, click on Play, then scroll down to the standalone DVD section. Then, click on the link for compatibility list, type your Sony model # and read the posts. There are certain CDR's that will work with this player.

I believe that CD-R's will not work. I tried a couple. Memorex Platinum CD-RW worked but Memorex discontinued them. Their non- Platinum CD-RW does not work. I am going to look for another manufacturer. Any ideas on what to try first?

-- Martin Schentes (mschentes@earthlink.net), March 06, 2003.

Had the same problem with the Sony DVP-S360 not reading CD-R's until I started using Princo Bulk Silver/Blue 74 min CDR Media purchased from IO Products (www.IOPRODUCTS.com). Burned many VCD's using Nero software without a single problem. Sony recognized and played each one. By the way the description for the CD-R's is BSB-50SP or BSB- 100SP depending on the spindle size. Hope this helps!!

Hi Siva,

I have used CD-R of iOTA (brand) with 80 min, I believe itīs same a PRINCO CD brand . It must be a BLUE media (itīs very important!). I have recorded several times as VCD or muisic CD and I didnīt have any problems yet. But now, I trie to make this SONY DVD (DVP-S360) to run SVCD movies as VCD by TMPEGenc. See this link below, for how to do it:

http://www.geocities.com/evbq64a/vcdtrick.htm

Or the text below: Not all DVD players will play SVCD's, and converting SVCD to VCD is a hassel, takes awhile, and cuts the quality of the video. Here is a way to put a VCD header on your SVCD to make you DVD player think it's playing a VCD. Tools required TMPGEnc 1. Open TMPGEnc and goto FILE>MPEG TOOLS and click on the Simple Multiplex tab.

2. Click Browse for video input and select your movie.

3. Be sure that the type is MPEG-1 Video-CD

4. Select you output file.

5. Click Run. This will take 5-10min maybe more depending on video size and speed of your computer.

6. Now just burn to CD using Nero or any other burning tool that will burn VCD's

Note: After doing this if you try to play the mpeg on your computer chances are you will just get is a blocky green screen. Do not worry, this is normal but it will still play fine in most DVD players

Have a good luck!

Harry

IN DVD PLAYER MODEL DVP S-360 ZONE 4. Put player into standby modus by pressing power button on remote control. Then press Title button. Press Clear button. Press Power button.

A blue options menu opens. Here you can change settings

I use TDK and Maxell CDRW's in mine and it plays perfectly well on a DVP-S360 DVD player (Sony).

By the way, anybody here knows where I could find a replacement laser (optic eye) for a 360 DVD player ? mine just conked out after 3 years in operation. Your help would be greatly appreciated...
