Bill not drumming

greenspun.com : LUSENET : R.E.M. : One Thread

Are there any tracks (obviously apart from Up and T Great Beyond) which Bill has not drummed on? I ask because I read that Peter drummed on 'untitled'.

Really? Peter was behind the drums for "Untitled"? Golley, that was some R.E.M. 411 that this chickie-monkie did not know! Humm....??? Chow. M

Peter was on drums on untitled off green, and i think bill may have played bass. They said they were mucking about on each others instruments, made this cool little tune, and then couldn't teach each other the parts they'd made up. Also, i think in one live performance of country feedback bill played bass, so he couldn't have been playing drums at that point. Other than that i don't know.

Ok Everyone. Especially you Chickie-Monkie. Dust off your REM bibles. (It Crawled From The South) Check out page 89. It has some interesting details about how the band originally demoed Everybody Hurts. Bill used the guitar he had used to compose it, Peter played bass and Mike played the drums. Mike dropped the sticks and it can be heared on the demo tape someone yelling for him to pick them up. The three musicians returned to their regular instruments when they demoed the second time.

Back to "Untitled" from Green... Peter was trying to teach Bill a drum part he had thought up, but Bill wasnt getting it for whatever reason, so Bill picked up the bass & started playing along, & then Mike came in & played some guitar. Well it turned out none of them could learn each other's parts, so when they recorded the song they just did it playing different instruments. For the record, Peter did not play drums on At My Most Beautiful. He says he is a truly awful drummer & cant keep a beat, & from the interview i read i doubt he'll ever play the drums again.

Bill played guitar on "Untitled", Mike played bass.

In the early days of playing Perfect Circle live, Bill played keyboards and they used a drum machine, so he didn't play drums them.
