80 min cdrw?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I'm wondering if using an 80 min cdrw with a Sony s360 is compatible vs using a 74 min? I used an 80 min cdrw and i got the error C 13:00...not sure what that means...

What are you trying to make with those 80 minute discs? I have not had any success making either a VCD or SVCD with one of those "extended" size media. When I tried to use the full capacity, my DVD set top player choked. If I burned it normally keeping the total under a normal CDR size it played okay.

The other thing would be the actual media itself. CDRWs are different than CDRs in reflecting the laser. That could be a factor.

I also read somewhere that these "extended play" discs have a different spiral density (or something) and that some CD readers will have trouble reading them. Mostly they will work fine within the PC environment when doing "non critical timing" type recording like for Data CDs or back up. But music and/or video cd's might give you trouble. (I'm talking about properly authored (S)VCD discs, not discs with Mpeg video just copied to them.

Ahh yes, thanks, I've been authoring the VCDs and getting no luck, I shall try the 74 min cdrw's...thanks.

I've burned a month ago a 78.45 min. VCD on a 80 min. media and works perfect even on old CDi machines. The problem may lies elsewhere, not on the size of the media.

That 13 error according to the sony manual means "Dirty disc"... I think it comes up with that if the sony can't recognize the format and or media then it's the c 13 error (even if the disc is not dirty).

I am having the same problems ... I am trying to burn a slideshow of jpgs and play it on the 360, and have had no luck at all on CDR or CDRW.... I do know the manual says CDR's are not compatible (page 5 of the manual).

Well, 74/80 min cdrw's don't work with the sony s360...
