Metro Rail Systems Experience Power Loss

Source: The Washington Times Publication date: 2000-07-17

Several Metro stations on the Red Line yesterday had a short power outage.

Metro spokeswoman Cheryl Johnson said the Cleveland Park, Dupont Circle, Woodley Park and Van Ness-UDC stations were shut down for about 30 minutes after the third rail lost power.

Several dozen Metro riders were waiting for shuttle buses to take them to nearby stations, but the stations reopened before any buses arrived.

Mrs. Johnson said all of the escalators at the Wheaton station were out of service when a deluge system that keeps the escalator area from flooding broke down.

Metro said it did not know why the third rail lost power.
