START CHERRYS & PEACHES FROM SEED

MY GRAMPS HAS A WONDERFUL OLD SWEET CHERRY TREE (QUEEN ANNE, I THINK, WHITE WITH A KISS OF RED ) I'VE BEEN WANTING TO START ONE OR TWO BUT HAVE HAD NO LUCK. ANY IDEAS? ALSO STARTING PEACHES FROM SEED. I'VE HAD SPROUTS FROM THE MULCH PILE BUT NO LUCK FROM THERE EITHER.

You sure can grow peaches from seed. They, like apples, wont breed true, but will produce a tree. My mom used to plant any viable peach pits. And I have a friend in SE KS that says peach seedlings are sort of a weed there. I suspect cherries are simular. Just be happy with whatever comes up because unlikely they breed true either.

Greg, If your GP's tree was grafted, then I would suggest buying a cherry tree from the nursery, graft part of it with a scion from your GP's tree. It would be a mixed tree variety but that would be ok. Another thing you could do is do an air-layering cutting of your GP's tree. When you see the roots, cut off and plant where you wish it to grow. Same could be done with peach.
