What's up with Southwick????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : New England Motocross Racing : One Thread

Was wondering what the real story is with Southwick......down here in the Tri-State area the buzz is that a piece of land that the track runs thru was bought by a developer & the closing of the race track is imminent...... Any truth to these rumors?????

I don't know how accurate this is, but someone told me that the piece of land in question is the new area they cleared this past year for the factory semi's to park in during the National. I guess the developer that purchased that land is in financial trouble, and is doing whatever he can to not lose his shirt on the deal (ie telling Bernie he has to pay "rent" for the land, even though we don't really use it, and the developer probably never had plans for it). Or this could be total BS, I don't know. Ride Fast...

Actualy, I heard that a little old lady owned it for all these years. I guess she offered to Bernie for 75K, but he refused to buy it. She sold it to a developer and the Developer made him pay him 25K to use it for the National. Now he has to either pay the developer a yearly fee to use it or get off the land. I guess the developer is know to build very expensive homes, if he does this, then I can only assume Bernie will have a challenge with the new home owners as well as the town.

I heard the same as Ron. Plus that Bernie was thinking of moving the pits to the opposite side of the track by the hills. All i know for sure is that the sign-up lines will be just as long, laps will be just as short and prices could even go up to help pay this "property rental"

LONG LIVE NESC!

I heard that the developer actually owns from the camel humps over...but that's besides the point. If they decide to put large houses in there, they're not going to want to listen to us race. And the town will look at the taxes they make on the houses, and the donations from Southwick, and we'll lose...Taxes is guaranteed money. Things aren't looking that great for Southwick...between that and what's going on with NESC, who knows where the sport will be at next year in New England??? Time for some major changes though... the people who own the tree land are not happy because bernie cut trees he was not supposed to. know he is getting sued and there might not be a national there next year. but there will be nesc. people are saying bull run is the next national. dont think so!

Jolly Rogers would be a great setting for national. This track and the people who run it care about motocross and it shows by all thier work. All of you riders who haven't been there should make the journey this weekend instead of riding that Hampton Beach track ,formally known as Southwick. Jolly makes Southwick, Bull Run and Middleboro look like some of the practice tracks that I've visited in years past, very poorly prepped, pretty beat as your looking at them during sign up, which really gets me in the mood for riding when the jumps are totally F..... up. Don't get me wrong I remember when Bull Run was awesome, like 5 years ago. Now it sure is a national caliber facilty, Just ask Yvon he'll tell you all about his awesome track. Yvon needs to get a clue from shore. He can't even handle running his own track never mind the Nesc.

I heard that jolly roger can not be used for a national track until they get rid of the wooden bridges, pros say that they are to slippery, but all they would have to do is pile up some dirt on it.
