Story Filed: Sunday, July 15, 2000 11:23 PM EST

MEXICO CITY, Jul. 14 (Reforma/Infolatina)-- While the Federal Electricity Commission denied the risk of a shortage of power, outages hit the southern region of Mexico yesterday (Thursday) due, according to the commission itself, to a saturation of the national grid. The Commission also confirmed that it is asking company's to shut down during peak hours. The Commission said that failures in two generating units added to excessive demand will provoke shortages in the key industrial region of northeastern Mexico this month.
