URAWA, Japan, July 15 (Kyodo) -- A power cut and vehicle trouble caused suspension of bullet train services on the Joetsu Shinkansen Line on Saturday morning, railway officials said. The power failure occurred between Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, and Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture, at around 9:45 a.m., forcing a train from Niigata to Tokyo to halt even after the outage was fixed, they said.

A rescue train was sent to pick up some 350 passengers aboard the Asahi 402 as the trouble-hit train was left without power for nearly two hours, the officials said.

They said trouble with the train may have caused the power failure.

The suspension of bullet train services between Takasaki and Kumagaya caused delays on the Joetsu and Hokuriku Shinkansen lines.

The services are expected to return to normal after 3 p.m., the officials said.
