Hampton, Ia. - A 911 telephone glitch that was detected in Franklin County on Sunday did not occur because of the switchover to the 641 area code, a telephone company spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Officials in Franklin County had reported that the glitch appeared in tests near Coulter, Alexander and Latimer. The 911 lines still worked in those areas but sometimes the emergency number had to be redialed. Lynn Gipple of Qwest, formerly US West, said the problem was not related to the new area code, but happened to occur about the time the switch was being made.
