Savannah Valley Railroad

I recently ran across a referance to the Savannah Valley Railroad (South Carolina) that ws absorbed by the Charleston & Western Carolina. The Savannah Valley Railroad (Georgia) was absorbed by the Savannah & Atlanta. Would like to know if these are one line or two seperate lines? Where were they located and what year were they merged? Thanks Gene McDaniel

The Savannah Valley Raiway (GA) was chartered July 28, 1908, and was complete, Egypt to Millhaven, GA,(37.5 miles) by February, 1909. The line was formed by stringing together several logging roads. The company was acquired by the Brinson Railway on July 1, 1909. To my knowledge, there was no connection, physical or corporate, with the South Carolina company.

The savannah Valley was a RR planned to run from Anderson toward Edgefield in S.C. The original line was proposed in 1850s but not built. There are some records from this company in the vault at the library at Erskine College in Due West, SC. Records play out about 1857 to 1858. Later another railroad was built over this basic route from Anderson to Iva to Lowndesville, Calhoun Falls to McCormick. this was a branch of the Charleston & Western Carolina. Most of it is gone now. Pickens RR operates some of the track in Anderson area. The GA version of Savannah Valley was 1 of the predecessors of S&A. 2 different companies separated by over 60 years.
