FS wasn't kidding when he said there's a palpable energy floating around....

My computer speaker was making a slight buzzing sound so I reached over and applied the Jiggle Technique, which is generally the first line of attack in diagnostic endeavors of this type. Much to my amusement and delight (I'm easily entertained), when my hand connected with the speaker I could hear the broadcast from a local radio station. (The weather is a balmy 68 and don't forget the Antique Show at the Fairgrounds this weekend.) Take the hand away, the broadcast stops. What fun!

Now as much as I believe in magic and would get a kick out of friendly gremlins taking up residence in my electronics, I know there's a perfectly reasonable explanation for what's occured. So if one of you more experienced with the mechanics of this phenomenon would care to share your wisdom and insights, I'd be most appreciative.

I've got a battery-operated transistor radio sitting in a drawer allllll the way on the other side of the house, so I doubt that's the culprit.

The "magic touch" only works on one speaker, not both, and sadly it's also lacking a volume control. ha

Since reading the Celestine Prophecy I have become conscious of the reality of coincidences and aware that there is a message and meaning in them.

Often, when I feel the need for a little direction I will look at the titles of the books I own and choose one that feels promising. From there I will look at the contents and proceed to choose a chapter like I did the title. If nothing really jumps out at me I will look at my surroundings for a clue.

I did this yesterday. None of the chapters jumped out at me so I looked around. There was an electric bill on the table and a chapter called The Body Electric.

The chapter contained an insight for me. It was simple and basic but served as a much needed reminder.

When I came to this board I saw your post, The Body Electric. I believe the message is for you and you will find the meaning it contains.

The author is speaking of consciousness, what it is and where it resides. He makes the point that the following descriptions could derive from almost any of the different disciplines:

The first body is the gross, physical body which is the manifestation of the life current. The second is the vital body, the electric field which in traditional terminology is called the 'etheric'. The third is the psychic body, the emotional field also known as the 'astral'. The fourth is the field of consciousness, an ovoid, luminous field of colors which is the most subtle of the four, otherwise called the 'mental body'. And finally there is the fifth. About this nothing can be said. It is the ground of being; the radiance of Primal Counsciousness.

The second body, the 'etheric' is considered as the archetypal pattern from which the first, gross body is molded. It acts as a receiver, an assimilator and a transmitter of bio-energy. It vitalizes all life forms.

This is a well known effect. the capacitance of your body (everybody has it) couples the RF (radio frequency) energy that floats around into the circuit where a silicon junction in the amplifier is rectifying it. Because there are no or only low Q tuned circuits the strongest local station ( at YOUR location) wins and is heard. Why is this happening? There could be a number of reasons, bad ground within the system, coroded connectors (try cleaning them with a little alcohol), or the most common..... cheap electronic manufactured in 3rd world countries that have inadequate input/output filtering. This has NOTHING to do with the supernatural

Debra - Interesting synchronicities that led to your reply. Thanks for the insight. I've forgotten about randomly selecting a reference for the message it contains and will do my own follow-up along these lines this afternoon. In fact, I vaguely recall a very old book (somewhere...it's around here somewhere) with a chapter entitled "The Body Electric" so it's definitely worth tracking down and delving into further. Excellent reminder!

As for the healing, I sincerely hope you're right. At the moment I don't feel any better physically but I know these things take time and I will continue to be patient. Your thoughts and prayers are important to me and I thank you for sending such positive energy my way, as are many others who join in your heartfelt endeavors.

Electronic man - Thanks for your technical explanation. The "magic touch" isn't working today - maybe it's just a night time thing or maybe the solar flare activity is effecting it. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted!

Oh so you're a capacitor, that makes sense, since you are a vessel of electrolytes. Radio crystal has a nicer ring though.

Just a guess, but your probably getting reception in the evening because radio usually gets better reception at night as there is less daytime traffic. Thus your body is better able to transmit that one strongest signal.

Coincidence is always fascinating.

There is an amplifier in your speaker, and your arm is being used as an antenna to bring the signal to that amplifier. There is probably an unprotected piece of wire in that particular speaker which is where the signal is getting into the system, the same is probably not true in the other speaker.

It is real easy to make an AM reciever (radio), My Dad had worked in Radio Electronics all of his life, he got into it in high school back in the late 1930's.

If anyone shows any interest, I could post instructions for their kids to make a simple radio.
