AU: Flight path monitoring system inaccurate

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Grassroots Information Coordination Center (GICC) : One Thread

Flight path monitoring equipment used to record
aircraft movements in and out of Sydney is
inaccurate by up to eight degrees, leaving
Airservices Australia unsure of whose rooftops the
planes are flying over, it has been revealed.

. . .

"If this is true, then it is a serious indictment on
Airservices," Mr Lidbetter said. "If the experts say
the equipment is faulty then the situation is worrying
because the difference could be up to 500 metres
by the time the planes get out to Pymble.

. . .

A spokesman for Airservices, Mr Scott Sloan, said
the radar was accurate but confirmed there was a
calibration problem with the Flight Path Monitoring
System.
