*WHO* didn't "Get It"? Forum shows public reject Fruit Loops long before 1/1/2000

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

There was one "certifiable" and a few other Fringers but mostly this site reflected what the Yahoo and other forums did: Little or No concern with Y2k.

Don't be foolhearty! Just do what you have to do. The best advise that I can give is: "STAY COMPLETELY AWAY FROM THE CITIES AND TOWNS WHEN IT HITS THE FAN! You will be thankful to God afterwords!!!

It's only a few weeks away till the year 2000 and still no one could offer an explanation to the questions why y2k could cause the plane to fall from the sky, why the bank could miscalculate the interest payable to the depositors, why the power company could not supply the electricity, why and why... People pretend to be smart and dare not ask many questions started with "why?". It gives those PhD's and the y2k exploiters a chance to make a lot of money. It's time to stop them making fun out of the situation. The world has spent too much money already for nothing!

See the PUBLIC ignore Y2k Dave.

SEE a comment that sums up where a lot of the hysteria came from:

Hi: I love this site and I even like the sideways smiley faces. I am a Christian and a hope to some work in the ministry to lost souls. Right now, I am ashamed of my "bretheren" who are so frighten of this non-existant disaster. So called Christians have brought shame to Christ through this lunacy of Y2k. I heard one report that said that people in the US have spent over $100 billion of Y2K survival stuff. People whine about taxes, hate public schools, and won't give one dollar to the homeless man on the street, but they are building Noah's ark for a spring shower. So-called Christian leaders have really out done themselves, they have made mass hysteria for the sake of money and power.

There are three reasons why Y2K is way overblown. A) People have survived worst. WWII, the Depression, Hurricanes and earthquakes make Y2K look like a joke. People have survived much worst. B) You can trust the government and business on this one, they have nothing to gain from lying. If PC's around the world start crashing, Bill Gates is out of a job. The government and military aren't stupid either, they realize they need their systems working. Y2K would only be a disaster if no one did anything, which isn't the case. C) Think of the people hucking this Y2K nonsense.

Its the Jerry Falwells and Pat Robinson types who make their money off of scaring the sheepish "christians" and conspiracy nuts. I bet Art Bell prays everynight for something like this, a real problem that he can over blow to build his power base and line his pockets. Y2K is will only be a problem because people are going to act STUPID. That's right, the real danger of Y2K is not planes crashing out of the sky or the lights going out in NYC at the stroke of midnight.

Its the conspiracy nuts and X-File worshipper who will cause the real havok. In the end, Y2K will show that we are so insecure and paranoid that we are our own undoing.

I suppose the "foolhearty" will soon be "broken-harded", which sounds quite painful.

Hey everybody, let's all post in big text on every thread until every thread is about my favorite subject: ME!

I don't think that last one was the original Big Text Geek, but he probably echoes big text man's thoughts.
