The Greatest Hoax Ever Perpetrated on a Leftist Scholarly Journal

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

The following website contains one of the greatest hoaxes ever perpetrated on a leftist scholarly journal ("Social Text"). The writer, Alan Sokal, submitted an article that was principally gibberish, which was accepted for publication. His expose of the parody was published soon afterwards in the journal Lingua Franca.

The wonderful, delicious details are presented at the website below. If you have trouble figuring out which things to read (you're not supposed to be able to understand the original article) let me know.

The original article's title is long, but starts with "Transgressing..."

Hoax

Enjoy!

Gordon's "references" link to sources to prop up her ludicrous stances about Y2k computer and embedded system problems. LINK http://www.gwu.edu/~y2k/keypeople/gordon/a.html

Interestingly, the link to Frautsci's "embedded paper" has been replaced with a link to his "Links Pages". Frautsci's embedded paper was a SILLY as Gordon's 6 part "Heart Throb" more suitable for DC Comics.

Here she give on truly "impeccable" source (of gas)

Two recent articles by Bruce Beach have stirred up considerable interest in the Internet concerning aspects of embedded systems that have not gotten adequate attention in the past. Bruce Beach refers to this as the embedded processor secondary clock problem. A discussion of similar issues using other terms can be found in Mark Frautschis paper (referenced above.) The Beach articles which have been attracting so much attentio are the following: The Embedded Processor Secondary Clock Problem, April 9,1999, http://www.webpal.org/Gas.htm   (on embedded systems) and The Smoking Guns of Y2K (on Y2K and natural gas pipelines) http://www.webpal.org/REPORT.htm .

As cpr (HIMSELF) has pointed out more than once, some left and semi- lefty groups were also y2k doomies. The stereotype that it was entirely a Christian-rightist thing is just that; a stereotype. In fact, I heard of no large scale organized preparations by any of the Christian churches in this area.

Some of the Lefty doomers were: MD Hen Caldicott, professional anti-nuker; Communatarian Erik Utne of Utne Reader and some New Agers such as David Sunfellow (do you think that's his real name?) from Harmonic-Convergence land in Sedona, AZ
