A bit of MARP trivia for you buffs out there...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

Who was the first MARP player to suggest a MARP tournament? The answer is pretty surprising, as is the post that sprung the idea...

Let's see who gets this first :)

Q.T.Quazar

oh, btw, a little personal tidbit I found on the msg board today, just to show you what my interests were this time last year, QRS.

Sorry, QRS. I hadn't even joined MARP when the first tournament started; in fact, I came into it around 2 weeks after its start date, I think. Anyone else have a guess? :)

My answer would be BBH - that's the first post in the tournament section in February 1999. It didn't start it, but it was a start.

Chris Parsley sparked the discussion again - which got gasoline from myself about four months later.

Sorry Pete, but you're wrong as well, although you're much closer than QRS :) Isn't it sad that our own tournament director doesn't know where the idea came from? LOL...

Two down... anyone else want to give this a shot?

See, now I'm really disappointed at you for not getting it, JG. You should know who it was if anyone does.

3 down, who's next?

Either Chris Parsley or JoustGod, I think

Maybe, but unfortunately it isn't either of them.

Too easy. It's Notman addressing a leaderboard calculation of someone...

Congratulations Chad, nailed it in one. I was reading through some of JoustGod's statistics the other day, and I came across that interesting tidbit. It sounded like one of those "Why didn't I think of that moments" as soon as NotMan made the suggestion.

NotMan, of course, went on to play in T1, annoying many players with his Lock n' Chase skills, and then subsequently disappeared from MARP.

Q.T.Quazar

and to all you MARP veterans who actually read the post when it first came out, I'm very, very disappointed in you. particularly the player who WROTE the post...hehehe... :P

Heh! I knew the answer was, but I was going to let anybody answer that one! Congrat to Chad! Yep (It was too easy)!

I did made the first suggestion about it, but Lord BBH did made the first comment about first MARP Tourney back (Feb. '99). Well! I wasn't sure if the tourney was going to be held or not, due Zwaxy was very busy to keep this site going from crashing alot! I wasn't sure how Zwaxy is going to do it or not until Gameboy came along! Congrat to Gameboy for making it happen! I wish that I should have kept playing on Tourney since the first one!

So Q-ball! I didn't disappear and I'm still here! I didn't have time to play newer games than classics, due other things in my life! Hopefully, I'll be back soon! So better watch out JG! Oh I see that Q-ball did some interesting point-leeching on Mikie! Go for a million pts! It's shouldn't be that hard! :)

P.S. Sorry for a long post!
