If a new forum starts, let me know. No promises.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

Phil has spoken. He says he'll shut us down on Friday July 7, 2000.

Some of you may go to the effort to make a new place for us to congregate. If so, let me know. The email address (and name) are real. I don't promise I'll stay long. It has to have a payback for my effort and a certain amount of ease of use. But I'd like to continue to blather with some of you folks (maybe not some of you).

If somebody starts a new place, I request an email. Thanks for all the memories, people.

SpinoffUncensored

You've had a LUSENET alternative all along...

-- As a Matter of Fact! (Helping@You.Out), July 07, 2000.

Yeah, you say that now, asswipe. but you had to follow AR and ceeper around from every thread they posted-hell, every REPLY they posted, and give some smartass response. your to blame as much for this as anyone-jerkwad

-- thanks (a@lot.asshole), July 07, 2000.

Oh, BTW. If some brave soul wants to volunteer to moderate a new forum, Phil Greenspun may allow a new forum to be formed on his server.

Since it was the complaints of "Andy Ray and his cohorts" according to Phil that made him sick of this forum, along with his belief that "Y2K is over" and the complainers need to "get a life", some way might be found to mollify Phil and to eliminate the lifeless Andy Ray and his cohorts from trying Phil's patience.

Even if it means a revival of the much-reviled exclusionary rules of TB2000, or just getting Andy and CPR to quit bellyaching so damn much.

At least it might be worth a try. Stay tuned for further developments. See you in the funny papers.

????????... link please?

-- Netghost (ng@no.yr), July 07, 2000.

Look UP, Ghostie...I gave you a link. (pay attention, son)

-- As a matter of fact.. (Helping@You.Out), July 07, 2000.

Brian:

There's already a very good place to congregate. Just go to the web sitecolloquy web site to get the address where you need to send your proof of sentience to Julia. The only other requirement is an interest in civil discussion. I'm sure you could qualify on both counts. Of course, very few of the other posters on this board could qualify under either count, but they won't be missed.

-- Steve Heller (Steve@SteveHeller.com), July 07, 2000.

Hell Heller is you can get in the bar must be pretty low.

-- another (thanks@lot.asshole), July 07, 2000.

Brian, Has anyone confirmed that the post from Philip Greenspun about closing the forum is really from him? I have no reason to doubt it, and can certainly understand his sentiments. Still, I'm left wondering about it.

Do you think it's possible that if someone started a new forum that didn't have Time Bomb 2000 associated with it, Greenspun would let it stand? How about if one of the "rules" was no posts about Y2K? That would certainly eliminate "Andy Ray and his cohorts", unless they're willing to admit this has been more about their addiction to trolling than about Y2K.

-- (I'm a@little.teapot), July 07, 2000.

how,s about GB-2000--GOD BLESS 2000?? WE ALL NEED A BLESSING-NO?

-- al-d. (dogs@zianet.com), July 07, 2000.

Get a grip, Brian. This forum isn't going anywhere. Even if the troll imposter on the other thread were REALLY Phil, any of us could establish another LUSENET forum without Y2k in the name. Phil knows this. Does it make sense to exchange one goofy forum for another?

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), July 07, 2000.

Who pays for this anyhow? It must cost some money somewhere.

-- Lars (lars@indy.net), July 07, 2000.

>> ...any of us could establish another LUSENET forum without Y2k in the name. Phil knows this. <<

Yes. I did think of this. However, if it were true that Andy Ray and company were making tremendous assholes of themselves via email, Phil might be ready to consider any option that might stop the annoyance.

Shutting down this particular forum could be just a first experimental step. After all, Phil has the power to do as he pleases with his server and his forums. If I were him, and the whole altruism thing wasn't working out, I'd certainly consider stopping the creation of any new forums as the next method of putting an end to a lot of grief.

If this was an imposter, they did a good job of sounding like Phil, in a sour mood.

-- Brian McLaughlin (brianm@ims.com), July 07, 2000.

why is everyone bad mouthing cpr in this? The complaint was made about Andy Ray. Ceep, while annoying, is no more so than any of the other one topic spammers found here: Netghost, Hawk, Heller, Decker, Al-D, etc. etc. etc.

-- Give ceep a break (just@as.bad), July 07, 2000.

If this was an imposter, they did a good job of sounding like Phil, in a sour mood.

Yes, they did. However, they made a few small mistakes:

Phil signs his posts as "Philip" and doesn't use his initials "PG", as shown in this post.

Also, if Phil really wanted to close down this forum, it would likely be done in the same manner that the original TB2000 was shut down over the rollover. Simply replace the associated pages with a straight HTML text page giving the explanation. There would be no reason for a "waiting period until midnight." Unless, of course, the person that posted as Phil can't really do any of these things. I mean really, why on earth would he want to wait around until midnight to shut it down anyway? Wouldn't he rather be sleeping?

-- (hmm@hmm.hmm), July 07, 2000.

Your lack of familiarity with the sleep habits of college professors, especially unreformed geeks is touching. Midnight to these folks, particularly Friday night is just part of the work day.

Joss

Oh BTW I HAVE seen a couple examples of Phil signing as "PG" but I forget where they were or I'd link to them.

That still doesn't explain why he would bother to wait at all.

Yes, of course you have. LOL.

This is how the whole Y2K bullshit was started. Someone posts unconformable crap and the Brian McLaughlins of the world start wringing his or her hands and moaning of the impending apocalypse. Have any of you personally spoken to Phil? I didnt think so. Also, I am confident that AR has not been in contact with MIT for many months now so theres another rumor you can toss. Brian, this is why many of us will continue to remind you what a delusional fool you are. Just confirms what Ive always said: Perceived intelligence on the Internet will usually turn out to be less than it appears.

And why am I not surprised that the all-time Mensa moron, Steve Heller, is slinking around. A loser for the ages.

-- Ra (tion@l.1), July 07, 2000.

LOL! Friend (yea right) Ra,

Looks like they are about to turn out your "lights"! Well have a good life (if your pitiful exhistance in your bigotted little world can be call a life)".

But in any case it has been a hoot.

And when we are still here tomorrow, will you admit you were wrong?

LOL

-- (hmm@hmm.hmm), July 07, 2000.

>> Someone posts unconformable crap and the Brian McLaughlins of the world start wringing his or her hands and moaning of the impending apocalypse. <<

I would be happy to accept this characterization, if you promise to apply it impartially, Ra.

If you look carefully, you will see that Mr. Charles Rueben (aka cpr) has begun a thread with the title, Andy Ray didn't kill this forum. The Know Littles did. This thread confirms that, when cpr posted this, he believed and accepted that the forum had been killed.

Also, I think you would grant that Andy Ray should know better than anyone else to what degree he had been pestering Phillip Greenspun with complaints. Yet, even in the face of that knowledge, Andy Ray posted that he considered it possible that someone might have been impersonating him via email to Mr. Greenspun. He concluded that he would "miss this place."

So, Ra, if what I posted (which merely accepts that the thread attributed to Phillip Greenspun was authentic and the forum would be shut down) can fairly be characterized as "wringing ... hands" and "moaning" about an "impending apocalypse", based on nothing more than "unconformable crap", then, pray tell me what would be a fair characterization of what cpr and Andy Ray did?

I await your answer, so I can tell just what kind of stuff you are made of.

-- Brian McLaughlin (brianm@ims.com), July 07, 2000.

McLaughlin, you more than anyone bought into the phony post because it was what your restricted mind wanted to believe. Same with your idiotic position on Y2K, and like now you are not made of the right material to admit what a fool you are. Your words dipshit:

Phil has spoken. He says he'll shut us down on Friday July 7, 2000

Oh really! Did Phil speak to you personally? Oh, he didnt? Gee, than he must have e-mailed you. Oh, he didnt? But the evil CPR and Andy Ray must be to blame for all of this, right?

Thanks again Brian for confirming that you are simply all mouth, malfunctioning mind, and zero cajones.

-- Ra (tion@l.1), July 07, 2000.

Ra,

Thanks for the answer. It speaks volumes.

Yes. Let me repeat what I already said. I did accept that the thread I am shutting down this forum, that had Phil Greenspun's email address attached to it (and did a fair job of impersonating his voice) was authentic. According to Oxy's later report, the email was phony. If this proves to be correct (as it appears now) then I was taken in. In other words I was wrong. I was fooled.

You clearly had the ascendency. You were not fooled. But you choked.

It is pretty plain that cpr and Andy Ray were also fooled by this email. Not only did you evade this fact (Shame, Ra. No cojones.) But you went so far as to suggest that I was somehow blaming cpr and Andy Ray for my shortcomings, or for planting the email (what "this" was, in "behind this", was ambiguous). More cowardice. Not good.

So, you had me by the short hairs, Ra. I was obviously fooled. Good opportunity to paint me as a fool. Trouble was, honesty would have led you to say the same of cpr and Andy Ray, too. You ducked. You ran. You frothed.

Sad ending. I am still a fool, but you became a coward.

-- Brian McLaughlin (brianm@ims.com), July 07, 2000.

Why Brian you are right on the money, you are a fool. Additionally, you are a pathetic coward for attempting to align yourself with CPR and Andy Ray, two messengers of truth that you despise so. Why have I not included them in my scorn of you? Simple. In regards to the possibility of this forum closing, they spoke in what ifs, whereas YOU spoke in absolutes. Just like last year boy. Ye of certain knowledge, ye of no facts. In case you havent figured it out by now, I can be a troublesome sort when it comes to calling out bullshitters like yourself. Often mean-spirited and rich in the backgrounds of most of the regulars on this and the old TB2000 forum, I am a few notches above your mentality but I choose to lay my thoughts out in a more direct manner. Get It!!

-- Ra (tion@l.1), July 07, 2000.

But why would either Andy Ray or cpr wish to have this forum closed down? They're not only welcome to post, they have an audience that responds to them, some of whom are still interested in the original subject. Nobody here can any longer even putatively injure the innocently gullible -- there's no more leverage.

The choice of "instigators" is instructive, though. Why not target one of our many remaining unrepentant ex-doomers, who never seem to tire of responding to Andy Ray or cpr with their incessant attacks? Both the nature and the target of the hoax smacks of such a mindset.

But bless them anyway. It's ennui, not Greenspun, that threatens to shut this forum down.

-- Flint (flintc@mindspring.com), July 07, 2000.

Shakey, you old winehead. Best get you some apple jack and calm down those DTs.

-- Ra (tion@l.1), July 07, 2000.

What?... just what " one topic " do I spam?... it would be nice to know so I could do it more than 3 or 4 times a day ( with some days and weeks off :-)

Ra, you still haven't told me where you studied to be so stupid !!!... and where was your voice early in this thread?

http://hv.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=003RzB

Ok... so I hit the n instead of the m key :-)

>> Why have I not included [CPR and Andy Ray] in my scorn of you? Simple. In regards to the possibility of this forum closing, they spoke in what ifs, whereas YOU spoke in absolutes. <<

So you say. In the case of Andy Ray, this will wash. But I reread cpr on the subject of Andy Ray didn't kill this forum. The Know Littles Did.

I searched his article for any sign of a what-if, or any qualifier of any sort when he wrote:

"Andy Ray, the de-bunkers, and I had little to do with the END of this mess."

"Those who wanted no censorship but still wanted to "believe" what "they know be they know it" KILLED this... <<

"The Y2k Doomzie HOMELESS better find a "new topic" fast..."

Somehow these do not sound like someone merely pondering what-if Phillip Greenspun wanted the forum to be closed. They sound mighty cocksure.

So, by your own standards, you must bring cpr into the fold with me and the other fools. Right, Ra? Or are you handing out Get Out of Jail Free cards to some of us fools but not to others?

>> I can be a troublesome sort when it comes to calling out bullshitters like yourself. <<

Yes. You could say that. I see that you did.

>> [you attempted] to align yourself with CPR and Andy Ray ...<<

So, what bull dropped this gem?

-- Brian McLaughlin (brianm@ims.com), July 07, 2000.

Brian, Ra has always been Little Sir Echo where CPR was concerned, even CPR at his looniest.

hate to break up a brawling testosterone fight, but wuddn't that "unconfirmable" crap? [grin]

Don't Think of Arguing (with@this.fuck), whomever the fuck YOU are:

You are demonstrating a phenomenon I have never been quite able to understand. When you decide to badmouth someone why do you use some off-the wall flippant handle to hide behind? Are you someone that normally posts under a real name and e-mail? If not why would you avoid using your normal made-up handle? Are you afraid that someone will reach out from your monitor and slap your chicken shit pussy ass around? Reach down between your legs..feel anything? Didnt think so. Your name Tod Berg by chance?

DSAh but for an i went I.
