I am going to close this forum

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

I am so sick and tired of all the complaints of Andy Ray and his cohorts to the MIT staff that I have decided to shut down this forum.

I don't know if his claims of invasion of privacy are accurate or not, and frankly I could care less at this point. I spent my time and energy to provide a medium in which ideas could be discussed freely (and to test my software), and it pains me to admit that poor judgement on the part of the sysops could combine with one pissed-off asshole to bring it to this point; but it has.

This forum will close at midnight EDT, July 7, 2000. Y2k is over people, get a life.

Answers

OK, Phil. You da man. It has always been your rarely-acknowledged effort that made this place possible. If it has become a pain in the ass for you, you have every right to shut us down. It come with being the responsible party and paying the bills, as you well know!

Thanks for everything. Sorry to see it end.

-- Brian McLaughlin (brianm@ims.com), July 07, 2000.

Hmmm...Does anyone else smell an inposter here?

-- Netghost (ng@no.yr), July 07, 2000.

It is 2 AM Eastern Standard Time. Nothing shut down! We've been hoodwinked!

-- snuggy (snuggy@aol.com), July 07, 2000.

I think he means midnight tonight. I'm sure that is what that meant.

-- As a matter of fact... (Helping@you.out), July 07, 2000.

It wouldn't matter if this forum closed. Another would simply pop up to replace it. In fact, the name could THEN be changed, eliminating Y2k from the discussion altogether.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), July 07, 2000.

THAT'S GOOD PHIL, AS LONG AS WE DON'T HAVE TO LISTEN TO CREEPER AND ANDY GAY ANYMORE, THE WORLD WILL BE A BETTER PLACE. bUT WHAT ARE THOSE GUYS GOING TO DO WITH ALL OF THE CRAP THAT KEEPS OOZING OUT OF THEIR MOUTHS? OH, THAT'S RIGHT, THEY CAN INSERT THEIR HEADS BACK UP THEIR ASSES WHERE THEY BELONG. BUT I DON'T THINK THERE IS ROOM FOR ANY MORE CRAP IN THERE, THEY HAVE BEEN FULL OF CRAP FOR A LONG TIME. WELL, GUESS THEY'LL JUST EXPLODE. HOPEFULLY ALL OF THEIR CRAP WILL GO WAY OUT INTO SPACE. HOPE THEY DON'T PISS OFF THE ALIENS.

I don't think "Plil" started this thread, but I guess we'll all find out soon enough. Doesn't he call himself Philip? If I remember, he doesn't like being called Phil...

But it does serve as another good example of what kind of person Andy Ray is. A cry baby, on top of all his other qualities. Like he's something special, different from everyone else that had the guts to post on TB2K. I think the first incident with "Phil" resulted in Andy's name being removed from the "delete list" on the old forum, after he promised to never post there again. How can one person be such a pain in the ass?

Yea, our hero Andy must have had his butt kicked pretty good, by someone on the old TB2K. Why else would he complain to MIT? Why else would he talk about how to disrupt TB2K on another forum? Why else would he still have such a rage towards all doomers?

I'ld be sorry to see this place go. But "Phil" is correct, Y2K is over. And what a great ending, to have Andy's forum shut down because of him.

ROTFLMAO!!! <:)=

-- Sysman (y2kboard@yahoo.com), July 07, 2000.

Having received a fair number of Phil's missives, either directly addressed to me or through the old mod team from TB2K Classic, I will say that this certainly FEELS like Phil.

Guess AR and CPR and a few others have succeeded.

More's the pity.

If true (IF), it's ironic that a "post Y2k" forum will, in effect, be shut down because of people who really couldn't deal with the fact that it WAS a "post Y2k" forum (emphasis on the "post" part). And if true, there may be a couple of Grade-A psychotics who've lost their only outlet -- not naming names, of course -- running around come Saturday morning.

But I guess we'll all find out in about..... 19 1/2 hours, as I write this.

By the way, Daze (of@our.lives), you forgot about one more thread:

OTFR, I have decided to not pursue your IP-sharing lapse

in which Andy Ray himself says:

I fear if I pursued this invasion of privacy and demonstrated one-sided-ness in the moderation of this forum with MIT personnel, it may result in this forum being shut down. This is something I definitely do not wish.

He certainly THREATENED this outcome when he asked if he had to dust off the MIT Mailing list.

Someone else can find the reference though I suspect it's in one of the threads referenced above.

At the risk of violating some pratical rules of debate (One cannot prove a negative; Don't engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed person; etc...) I will attempt to explain to the perpetually incorrect (yes, I am singling you out again Sysyman) that I have not emailed anyone at MIT about regarding matter.

I don't know if this is from Mr. Greenspun or not - it's very difficult to tell with all the imitation that seems the joy of the memetic. Though I will agree with Mr. Rienzo above (having exchanged email with Mr. Greenspun in the past) that the writing seems familiar enough.

Sysyman,

You have outdone yourself - again.

There are almost as many lies in your accusatory questions as you told and endorsed regarding Y2k. You are such a doomer (that's an insult - in case you're too ignorant to realise it).

Though it will accomplish little (and though I will not redress matters already attended), I will attempt to communicate with you in your native tongue, Doomer Meme:
You cannot prove I sent any emails to Mr. Greenspun, therefore I must not have. I have conducted a survey of a group of people who conjoinly represent 875,526,152,923.132 years of programming and email experience, and they all agree that it is simply not possible that I could have emailed Mr. Greenspun enough - no matter how many people I hired to do the typing, or how much money I threw at the problem - to "fix" this forum before midnight tonight (or last night).

It's too late already! The forum cannot be fixed!

If you love your family, you will tell them to be prepared for not having an Hysterium upon which to blather! It's coming soon!

TICK TOCK!

(...whew...)

I hope that conveys the essential message. Perhaps someone impersonating me sent email to MIT, I am not certain.

I will miss this place.

Vindicated Regards,
Andy Ray

(FONT SIZE = 3) for this size of text. I'm on a new system with no access to HTML references this morning. This board is loading very slowly. I can see that I have a lot of fine tuning ahead of me this afternoon.

-- (kb8um8@yahoo.com), July 07, 2000.

The large fonts used by BIG TEXT MAN consume an inordinate amount of space, hence their gratuitous use falls just short of spam.

-- David L (bumpkin@dnet.net), July 07, 2000.

Agreed, David.

-- (kb8um8@yahoo.com), July 07, 2000.

NOT TRUE. THIS PAGE LOADS VERY QUICKLY. THE TEXT USES 1 BYTE PER CHARACTER, SAME AS SMALL WIMPY TEXT. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH YOUR COMPUTER. GET HIP TO IT.

-- (BIG@TEXT.MAN), July 07, 2000.

That big font is what young teens do to get attention when they first get on the web. Big words to compensate for small brains and show an ego that needs to be fed.

Look at me I'm so cute I can post BIG.

Actually, Big Text Man, it looks more like a routing problem. Back to the drawing board. You're welcome to buy me some lunch...

-- (kb8um8@yahoo.com), July 07, 2000.

Phil Greenspun's post reads, "I am so sick and tired of all the complaints of Andy Ray and his cohorts to the MIT staff..."

Andy Ray's post reads, " I have not emailed anyone at MIT about regarding matter [sic]."

The question is: have any of Andy Ray's cohorts (his lawyer and/or others contacted by Andy Ray), complained to the MIT staff?

-- James Donald (jas.donald@usa.net), July 07, 2000.

The question is: have any of Andy Ray's cohorts (his lawyer and/or others contacted by Andy Ray), complained to the MIT staff?

LOL.

Andy Ray has no cohorts.

-- (hmm@hmm.hmm), July 07, 2000.

My above answer was in reference to *image* space rather than *file* space. The overly large font takes longer to read than the usual font, wasting the reader's time. I have no problem skipping over it, provided that those using it would be conscientious about restoring font size to its previous value.

-- David L (bumpkin@dnet.net), July 07, 2000.

Yeah, it'd be nice if OTFR would pipe in and let us know if this was real or not, but OTOH I suppose I'll find out soon enough.

Good luck all anyway,

If this forum's days are up, if someone would just let me know (by e- mail or wherever) where we're goin', I'll rest a little easier tonight.

In any case, I trust everything'll turn out all right.

-- eve (eve_rebekah@yahoo.com), July 07, 2000.

Don't give it another thought, Eve. If this forum were shut down, someone would post some alternative urls over on Yourdon's board. You're not the only person who posts on both boards; some just post under different names for reasons that have been discussed on other threads. Okay? Have a great Friday. Summer is so short ... get out and enjoy it while you can.

-- (kb8um8@yahoo.com), July 07, 2000.

This forum should close. The reality is that nothing said about Y2k matters any more. Come up to anyone on the street and mention the names, Milne, Olson, Hamasaki or on the other side Reuben and Andy Ray and all you'll get is blank stares. Of course, less than one in a thousand knew those names in Y2k's hey day. That's how revelant we all were. "Names" will have to be made somewhere else.

Shut it down and thanks for the ride.

-- Hiway (Hiway441@aol.com), July 07, 2000.

This forum should close. The reality is that nothing said about Y2k matters any more.

Then why are you still here talking about it? Have you noticed that there are many postings here having nothing to do with Y2K?

-- (hmm@hmm.hmm), July 07, 2000.

Wow!!!!! Looks like Phil to me, and if Chuck agrees, I guess its a 'given', I retract my earlier statement on another thread, looks like it will be closing.

AR threats and if you notice, Phil appears to be blaming OTFR as well.

Oh well, it has been 'different' to say the least. But if you go to the link which provides the yourdon forum, you will see for yourselves some who posted here are actually a bit two-faced.

I've noticed that alot who used to post more have not done so. Due to summer, I didnt think that strange. I met alot of 'cool' folks, and even made up with EVE :-)

I never felt this was about y2k, but the likes of AR and a few other idiots wanted it to be. I didnt even care about that really. It was just nice to have a place to be able to speak out, uncensored.

If anyone else wishes to start a board, please advise and give addy.

Actually, AR specifically mentioned in this thread that he did not email MIT.

But if AR didn't email MIT, what is Phil supposedly blaming OTFR for? Unless, of course, it's not really Phil.

I have a serious question about Andy Ray

Andy Ray was once on the list of banned trolls. Why is he no longer there? just curious.

-- Butt Nugget (catsbutt@umailme.com), January 23, 2000

Answers

Because he kept complaining about being on the list, to the MIT President, et. al., including Philip Greenspun, and Philip asked me to take him off the list with the proviso that AndyRay would NEVER again contact him, or the others at MIT, or post here, again, otherwise Philip would block his ISP. That's why.

It's very simple, for the other four, to get off that list. Quit posting here. Duh.

It's a big, big net out there. They all engaged in repeat spamming and DOS attacks on this forum. That childish, disruptive action will get someone banned. They all crossed the line in netiquette behavior.

Thanks to Andy (is@cry.baby) above, I don't have to go find the thread where Diane said why your name was removed from the delete list. Is Diane lying? Did you, or did you not, contact the President of MIT, and Philip Greenspun? Simple question, yes or no. And if you didn't, please explain why your name was removed.

Why else would he talk about how to disrupt TB2K on another forum?

Yea, we've been thru this. You told us once again that it wasn't you. But in the same re-post, you also told everyone how to do it, and showed the code fragment. But it wasn't you that posted it in the first place. OK Andy, if you say so. You keep saying that you are innocent, but I just wonder why you have been "charged" so many times...

Why else would he still have such a rage towards all doomers?

Don't you, Andy? If it isn't rage, what is it?

<:)=

-- Sysman (y2kboard@yahoo.com), July 07, 2000.

Like what, Andy? Show me where I am wrong.

Actually, you were wrong when you started with this premise:

I don't think "Plil" started this thread, but I guess we'll all find out soon enough. Doesn't he call himself Philip? If I remember, he doesn't like being called Phil...

and went on to use it as proof of this premise:

But it does serve as another good example of what kind of person Andy Ray is. A cry baby, on top of all his other qualities. Like he's something special, different from everyone else that had the guts to post on TB2K.

So, you start out by saying that you think that the message is a fake, and yet in your second statement, you're using information from the message that you think is a fake as an example of what kind of person Andy Ray is.

-- (hmm@hmm.hmm), July 07, 2000.

Sysman, Trying to figure out these guys is an awful lot like trying to fix a "rats nest" on a casting reel... you can do it with a lot of effort, but the line will be kinked and weak when you're done... better to just cut it out and shit can it... you know, start fresh.

-- Netghost (ng@no.yr), July 07, 2000.

No, I used the current message as a reminder of what Andy did in the past, or at least what Diane said he did. Maybe Chuck will comment on this again.

Netghost,

Yea, I am tired of this. But as long as people like Andy continue to call people idiots, and as long as he feels the need to "single me out" I guess it's my job to remind people of just what kind of a guy Andy really is.

But for now, I've got better things to do. Another beautiful evening here in NJ. Time to go sit on my deck, with my favorite blonde, who will be here in about 10 minutes.

No, I used the current message as a reminder of what Andy did in the past, or at least what Diane said he did.

But you acknowledged that the current message is a fake. You're using information that is false as your "reminder" of what Andy did. You took this false information and said that it serves as another good example of what kind of person Andy Ray is. If the information is false how can it serve as a "good example" of anything except "what a forged message looks like"?

Maybe Chuck will comment on this again.

I don't see how that would help.
