Yellowing leaves on potted rose bush

Help, oh great gardening experts! :)

A couple of months ago, I got one of those mini-rosebush potted plants from the local grocery store. A little while later, I transplanted it into a "real" flowerpot. I noticed about a month ago that the leaves at the bottom were turning yellow; I'd pinch them off, but they just kept turning yellow. I thought maybe I was over-watering, or that the plant was getting too much sun, but nothing I did was helping (oh, I should say that I live in the SF Bay Area, so it's always warm and sunny; no abrupt weather changes).

My mom suggested that I look at the root system; when I removed the plant from the old pot, I saw that the roots were pressed up really tightly against the bottom of the plant. She suggested transplanting it again to a slightly larger pot. I did this about 2 weeks ago, but the yellowing leaves have actually gotten worse! My boyfriend says I should just leave it alone and see what happens, but it's really depressing to see my once-happy and growing little plant turning all yellow every day!

Does anyone have any advice? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
