Artwork by John Gilbert Wilkins?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Art Deco Society of Washington : One Thread

We recently acquired a print by John Gilbert Wilkins. It is black and white. The background is very geometric with stylized sunbursts, etc. In the foreground are a pair of leaping gizelles, one male, one female. We think that Wilkins may have written a book in 1925 called Research: Design in Nature. Does anyone have any additional insights on this artist?

I would like to know if a 2nd edition, 1931, RESEARCH: DESIGN IN NATURE, Vol. 1, signed by John Gilbert Wilkins, is valuable? I would like to have a copy of the obituary mentioned by Mr. Hager. Thank you.

I have in my possession a portfolio of the "1924-25 Research--Design In Nature" by John Gilbert Wilkins. It appears to be original. It has the table of contents plus numerous Photogravure printings. I would like to know what it might be worth. I am interested in sellig it.

I have a series of works by John Gilbert Wilkins titled Research Design in Nature. They are of animals, insects, and plant studies done by Mr. Wilkins and his students at Art Institute of Chicago. It also includes works in reference to posters done for the Illinois Central . Please let me know any info on these beautiful works.

I can't identify your print. It sounds similiar to the work in the collection of 18 plates that John Gilbert Wilkins published (of his own work) in 1933. The work is titled Nature - Modern Decorative Illustration and published by H. C. Perleberg, Philadelphia. The photogravuer prints in this work measure about 10 3/4 by 13 3/4 inches--aand are a bit larger than in Wilkins' Research - Design in Nature, and are on heaver paper. The work Research - Design in Nature went through various editions with differing printing methods and shows the work of his students at the Art Institute, Chicago.

John Wilkins was my uncle, and I remember seeing him on many occasions. He would come to our house to visit, and would begin drawing--simple things, like a chair, e.g. It was amazing to watch. We had a copy of the portfolio mention by several above, but I don't know whatever happened to it. I have one piece of his artwork hanging on our wall. I would appreciate a copy of his obit mentioned above.

I have a presentation copy of the 1933 portfolio of 18 prints, signed by Mr. Wilkins. Any idea - are these photographic images of pencil drawings? And any idea of its value. Thanks
