VCD Playback with Windows Media Player problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Help! I bought a whole box of VCDs and one of them cannot playback on my PC using Windows Media Player (v6.4.09). This VCD works fine on my Pioneer DVD player, but cannot be read by Windows at all. The message is: No combination of filters could be found to render the stream. (Error=80040218)

Is there a way how to fix this problem so that I can watch this on my PC using software? I have tried VCDGear to fix the problem but in the end, the video is garbled with lots of random boxes.

Thanks in advance.

try to open the cd in windows media player, specifically the mpegav folder. remember to change the types of files seen to "all files" you should see some files there that are playable. hope this works for you.

I figured it out! ^_^ Just in case anyone in the future runs into the same problem as me, here's how you do it:

Use ISOBuster to extract the files from the CD. Use the Filter options of either "Filter only M2F2 Mpeg frames" or "Extract RAW".

Use VCDGear to convert the files (again) using the "Mpeg to Mpeg" feature. The resulting MPEG file can be read by Windows Media Player (and all more recent players)properly. If your really want to go all the way with this, just burn the MPEG files into a VCD using whatever VCD creation software you have out there.

Thank you to anyone who tried to help me earlier.
