Aren't Britney Spears' 15 minutes of fame over YET?

I see a long future of artistic triumphant after artistic triumph for the sex-muppet. No, really, a couple of years at least. Someone has got to be the saleable epitome of squeaky clean, desexed teen eye-candy, and since it can't be me, it might as well be her....

Mmm, dunno about that. If she was still the chubby-cheeked, bubbly sex poppet from "One More Time," I would agree with you. Unfortunately, someone's put her on a diet that's done away with every trace of puppy fat, rendering her. . .well, plain, to be brutally frank, thus undercutting her appeal as a fresh-faced apple-cheeked wannabe sex bomb.

I foresee maybe one more single from the latest CD, then a fast fade from the public consciousness, only to be resurrected five years from now as either a Millennium Alanis Morissette with a major chip on her shoulder towards Mommy Dearest, or a Broadway stalwart like Deborah (formerly Debbie) Gibson.

Anyone remember Tiffany?

I see Brittney Spears not lasting more than 5 more years... seeing how she will have already died of skin cancer from tanning constantly. She is going to be sooooo wrinkly.

What is Britney Spears compared to Tiffany? I am sitting here in the cool of the grotto that I erected for Tiffany, listening to her cover of the classic "I Think We're Alone Now." Surely, one day she will respond to my earnest wooings and come to the grotto. Then, together at last, we will ascend to pop stardom and beyond.

Y'know, the scary thing is, any one of the manufactured teeny bopper stars could last for the long run, or come back into fame one day. I remember reading an article in Newsweek, circa 1982, where they predicted that Cindi Lauper would be the star of a new New Wave, and that Madonna would quickly fade. Or look at Cher. Who would have guessed during the dynasty of terror that we called "The Sonny and Cher Show" that she would go on to win Oscars for acting, and continue to have hit singles for the next nearly thirty years? It makes you believe in the Devil, don't it?
