Need help on selecting tripod for Canon EOS Elan II

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I have a Canon EOS Elan II.

Would appreciate if you could help me out on selecting a tripod for this Camera

The features I need are:

- Must support both horizontal and vertical positioning of the Camera body - Should be as compact as possible when folded.

I also read in a Velbon ad about how the tripod head tightens automatically if the camera happens to tilt forward, this seems like a nice feature to have.

It would be great if this tripod could be used for both photo and video, as I plan to buy video camera in the future.

This is going to be my first tripod so this is quite a newbie question. :-)

thanks in advance for any info.

go to www.photo.net and read the article on tripods. i have three sets bogen/manfrotto legs, which i believe are the best bang for the buck. also, the tripod head is very important. figure out what you need, a pan/tilt, or a ball head. this is where you will be spending the most of your money (as far as camera support is concerned). don't go cheeze on the head. take it from someone who learned the hard way.

something else to take into consideration also is how big are your lenses...

Surith, I too shoot with a couple Elan II(E). I have been very impressed with the Bogen #3221W along with the Bogen #3265 pistol grip. I use for weddings. Sturdy and very effective.

Hope this helps. David
