So, are we kissing your freckled ass?

Did you take the quiz? What were your results? I took it, and quit my job hours later. Granted, I was already planning on leaving, but it's just so much more fun taking the plunge because an online quiz told me so.

Are you heeding the Mighty Quiz? If so, why? Or why not?

I took the quiz, and got the same answer you did. I have too many bills to quit before I find a new job. And finding a new job would take all sorts of energy. So I ain't quitting.

But I do fantasize about living in a van down by the river...

I took it and it told me to stay with my current job until I know what I really want to do. The thing is, I know what I really want to do, and I'm working on it. I'm just not telling everyone anymore.

Sara, it would have been pretty funny if you printed out the actual response you got from that quiz and handed it to your ex-boss right before leaving. Well, not so funny if you wanted a reference.

Huh! I don't even have a job, really, but I have been trying to figure out what I should be doing next. So I took the test rather flippantly. And my answer was to not quit my job until I know what I should be doing next. Yikes!

-- Terry (terry@surfnetusa.com), July 01, 2000.

Scott: I wanted that reference! I even brought my boss a little gift-- a book of antique postcards of the island. This was a bridge I didn't want to burn, no matter how cranky I was.

Here is what mine said: "Don't quit your job. You're happy. You probably have colleagues you can talk to, your boss probably respects you and, if not, you're empowered enough not to care about that. You enjoy what you do most of the time. Sure, you have bad days, but who doesn't? If you have a problem today, you'll get over it this weekend."

But the strange thing about the quiz results is that they don't matter. I'm self-employed. I can't quit!

-- Meghan (meghlcl@aol.com), July 01, 2000.

Well, strictly speaking, I'm self-employed as well. But the newspaper was my primary client. I had an office there. When I took the quiz, I was thinking of that position.

Here's what it told me, like I cared.

Saint Stephen, with a rose . . .

You know, whatever else I might think of you, it never ever *ever* would come close to anything related to a real Deadhead.

Amazing.

-- Curtis (xiled@mindspring.com), July 02, 2000.

I expect that would depend on your definition of a "real" DeadHead.

I'm your pusher...

"Don't quit your job. Your situation may not be perfect, but it will do as well as any other until you figure out what it really is that you want."

How reassuring.

My job is a two minute walk from home, I have a Fab-u-lous boss who thinks I'm great and I have NEVER had this much moolah in my savings account before. In my life. Ever.

The one thing that calls out to me from the back of my mind where my Little Voice lives is this: am I a failure for ending up at a job that has nothing to do with what I twice went through college for? Should I always be striving for that writing job or that H.R. position? Should I simply be happy that hundreds of kids each year receive loans to attend college and better their lives due, in part, to my efforts?

Argh.....too much soul-searching on a long weekend.

Happy Canada Day/4th of July everyone!

Sara, first-time reader here, found you when Lisa of Speaking Confidentially linked. So far, I like what I see. Yes, I am trying to heed the mighty quiz, but since my current job isn't unbearable (yet) won't do so w/out 'nother job lined up. I have been unemployed before and even in a good economy like this one, it sucks. As it happens, I am a former journalist, currently working for a trade association, well-paid, but bored. Under a strange set of circumstances, I have just been invited to apply for a position with the website of a major metro daily, a job I would love to get. So this weekend, between lounging at the pool and going down to the Folklife Festival, I'll be putting together the best cover letter I've ever done.

You should definitely quit your job. You're using your job as an excuse not to do what you are really meant to. Obviously, who you are and what you do are solidly connected in your mind. Chances are your very spirit is entrepreneurial, or you have a deep- seeded disrespect for all authority, or you have to do something that is eating at you for your neglect it. Quit already. Go, start your own company, write the novel, paint the picture. People like you, at your stage of life really shouldn't be working for anyone else.

yep.. i got the same thing as you... hehe. i was in europe when you posted that journal so i just took it. funfunfun.

Ok, after three cups of coffee I decided to take the quiz. Are you sure it's not for people who work at Burger King??
