Payroll Glitch Hits Pinkerton

by L. Kim Tan Friday, June 30, 2000

A glitch in security giant Pinkerton USA's payroll system has some employees in Boston frustrated as they try to cope with smaller-than-expected paychecks and other mistakes.

``People are absolutely furious,'' one security guard said.

He said as many as 200 guards were affected. All work for First Security Services Corp. of Boston, which was acquired by California-based Pinkerton in December.

Lawrence Curran, a Pinkerton vice president, blamed the mistakes on the merger. But he said he's heard of only 15 to 20 errors over the past few weeks, not 200.

``We are in the process of a major system conversion,'' he said. ``It's quite possible that things may not have gone as well as we would have liked.''
