NESC vs NEMA vs ????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : New England Motocross Racing : One Thread

If the NESC is getting "overcrowded, too money orientated and wont listen to riders" and NEMA does things pretty good but has restrictions on who can ride, then mabey we need something else?!?! Something in between the two. Something that will listen and cater to the riders. Something that cares a bit.

I think that there is a large number of people out there who just want to go out and have a nice race day. Like NEMA but not just for kids. I think NEMA is so succesfull partially because of people running it but also because they dont have a million classes to run. Not only does that decrease the waiting time and increase the track time, but it also decreases EVERYONE stress level!! Less rushing and waiting = less stress = more fun and less crashing! How many more of us would bring our wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend, kids or friends to a race if it wasnt such a damn nightmare!

I see three choices...1) NESC split up the classes and stop trying to run them all on the same day. (and start giving a crap) 2)NEMA expand to let older, kidless riders in. 3) Something new.

well.... 1) NESC will never change 2)if NEMA expands, they could end up like NESC and they are too smart for that. 3)So i guess we need a new organization. Hey this would actually help NESC by "borrowing" some of its members and lightening it's load. So everyone would win. (except the poor photographers) Hey mabey even i'd even win a damn race! What do you think?

Very interesting... And here are a few more thoughts... Maybe this new organization could support more saturday or saturday night races? I have ridden under the lights only a few times but it really is a neat experience. It's also a neat experience to rest before going back to work on Monday ;-) Well, that's my opinion anyway.

Ive never ridden under lights (outside anyways)...it sounds awesome. I like the saturday idea too, but i wonder if a lot of people have to work. The riders should be able to vote on it! Or better yet, just race saturday AND sunday at the same track for a discount price...like $25 per day or $40 for both. There's a lot of awesome tracks out there that NESC wont go to....they would be interested in a double-header i bet!

I think that this whole new prganization idea might work, if people really care enough! NEMA does put a lil too much effort into being a "kid" organization...so alls we have is one class for adults which is, the Grand Prix class, but that filled with 125 B riders, and then they have the parent class's...and they cut of the Grand Prix signup so noone else can get in after like the 2nd race...so that dumb... We used to have a "Vet" class in NEMA, for people over 21, but for some stupid reason they cut it out... This new organization would be awesome..need any help...just let me know, i may only be a 17 year old punk...but i got lots of spunk peaCe out and Ride oN!

Saturday races. Excellent idea. I know I have raced some Nema events in the past and it seems to work. Not everyone can make it,but for those who can it may suit their schedule better. I don't know about the present, but in the past NEMA even had a real break @ the 1/2 way point and still managed to finish @ a reasonable time with plenty of track time for all of the classes. Everything may not be right or please everyone, but keep the ideas coming.

What ya mean? I have 3 great photographers that work with me. Pam joins me alot at NEMA is top notch at her mx stuff. So bring it on and I will continue to make sure there is coverage for you.

my older brother is 19 and he tried to join nema this past weekend at jolly rogers...and they wouldnt let him become a member of nema because he was too old and had no kids....wich i think is a STUPID reason not to let someone join.. there is a grand prix class... and also i raced the 125c class and OH MY GOD talk about a mess ! they had people starting behind people..and one the start every one is going crazy no one can keep there own line... i dont even feel safe out there... everyone is smashing into u and dont know what they are doing.... truthfully i think NESC is ALOT better if only the refs and track owners could all get along with the riders. nesc would be alot better.... but oh well....i cant change other people's opinion's ....see ya at the races....... who is going to middleboro ?

-- jenn 520 (mxchik520@aol.com), July 03, 2000.

Jenn i can agree with you about the 125 c class.... it definitly sux. They don't know how to stay in one line and go all over the track (especially at the starts) They also hit you alot because they can't stay in control (only because there are 60 riders on the track at the same time). But i will never switch to nesc... main reason being... so far, your organiztion really SUX when it comes to listening to riders, and another being, there's no lap time.. not to mention the gate, class, and membership fees are alot higher. If only there weren't 65 riders in the 125 C class, and they would except riders over 18 nema would be alot better. I use to race nesc... i wasn't happy... ref's go extremely out of control when it comes to suspending people... ever hear of Disqualification from a race instead of suspending them from racing? o well... talk to ya later jenn!

Meg and Jenn, on Saturday there were 40 125C riders, 40 started the first moto and 36 started the second. On Sunday there were 39 that started the first moto and 36 that started the second. I personally don't think NEMA should have any adult riders. It should be kept as a YOUTH ONLY organization. It is growing too fast and may just become another NESC which I don't want to happen.

Sharon (NEMA trophy lady)

Sharon i am really sorry but i totally think that having NEMA be a TOTALLY YOUTH organization is dumb...i think your great and all...but we cant have just Kids what would the fun be in that, ok...i race nema for 7 or 8 years, i graduate high school...and what now...i have to stop racing? or go but up with all the B/S that comes along with NESC, thats stupid! and half the kids that are in NEMA wouldnt be able to race there if there dads didnt get to race! NEMA SHOULDNT be a TOTALLY YOUTH organization...it should be a FAMILY organization!

please dont take any offense, we are all just stating our own opinions!

-- MatthewL (RaZeeMx970@aol.com), July 04, 2000.

A complete youth organization? yea i can understand dedicating most of the time to the kids... but when you have your whole family racing nema... and they won't let one person in your family join because he ois over the age limit by one year???? i know these people... they came to nema because they are sick of nesc... they have 2 people in their family racing... would be three but they wouldn't let her older brother join because he was 19, now they have to go back to nesc. Jenn came to nema for the womens class... because it was the only one in new england who actually doesn't run with anyone else, and is treated fairly...plaques, medals, laps, and there are more than 2 girls racing. now not only has nesc screwed them... so has nema. Where the heck are they gona go now? wake up people!

-- meg 486 (mxgurly486@aol.com), July 04, 2000.

This is my point!!! We need something else....somewhere in between NEMA and NESC. NEMA is doing great and doesnt need to change, NESC is too stubborn to change. And NOONE should have to quit racing after high school!!

-- toml (toml@pmcomputers.com), July 04, 2000.

ALL YOUTH ! oh my god! what is the fun of just youths ? you go to nesc and see all the fast experts then come over to nema and see theses youths ? things that n.e.m.a should do(opinion)are : 1. allow adults to join even if they have no kids 2. maybe get a D class for beginners then work your way up... things n.e.s.c should change : 1. lower entry fees, gate fees ,ect.. 2. GET ALONG ? 3. more track time.. 4. ref's lighten up a bit'.. 5. disqualification instead of suspension... need i go on ? as for the lap time in n.e.s.c if some of the novice riders went to nema they would probly do good.. but they might get tired because they arent used to the longer lap times. but they probably wouldnt be able to race unless they are 18 or younger... maybe the n.e.r.c should start there own organization and find some tracks we could race at... but until n.e.s.c gets there act together you all wont be seing too much of my family there..(probably many other familys either) oh well i hope every thing gets straightend out... cuz this is just stupid !!

-- jenn 520-525 (mxchik520@aol.com), July 05, 2000.

here's my 2 cents.

NEMA is a youth organization and should stay that way. If it continues to grow they way it has (we are 5 year members, and it almost doubles every year) it will need new classes as it is (125 class as an example) or somehow break it out by ages so you do not have riders behind the gate (UNSAFE !!)once you cut your teeth in NEMA then go on to NESC or wherever. The club is and should stay a youth organization. I would like to see more experts riding, because the kids learn a lot from watching them. (but the money is at NESC)

NESC obviously has a lot of problems right now. most of the new riders / members in NEMA came over from NESC wanting more track time and lower entry fees. We ran a few this spring and it was horrible. NESC needs to clean up its act, get more tracks, respect the riders, and work on maintaining a premeir "expert" status. Maybe concentrate on 125's through open expert, and cut the other classes? bad news for multiple rider families, like Jenn's. NEMA is good at what it does, Dont try to make it something it's not. leave it for minors and parents of them, or it will be NESC 3 lap sprints.

wnat a more low key race day? try Skowhegan, Jolly or Caanan. lots of fun and plenty of classes. Also at least 2 new tracks for next year coming on-line. (another club/series??)

I heard they just banned cloning humans, so Pierre and Paul are out of luck!

When I said NEMA to be youth, I didn't mean you had to leave once you got to be 18, you could still ride in the other class and maybe classes if they add back the vet class next year. You can only join if you are a youth. Keep it like it is now, no adults can join unless they have a child racing too, or in Jenn's case, two youths and a big brother. That's what I meant. Didn't mean to be offending anyone.

-- sharon (gilrob@gis.net), July 05, 2000.

ok Sharon, i getcha, i just dont think that it would be fun to have a all youth organization...i love watching the dads ride, and the top guys in the GP class, it would suck to take that away but i know what you mean now **PeaCe**

PLEASE...Those critical of NEMA, why don't you post those messages on the NEMA board and / or bring it to the NEMA board???
