AND WE HAVE A WINNER!

It is with great pleasure that The Daily Toon team announce that the Euro 2000 Predictions Competition has been won by our friend from the colony down under, young Gus (pause for a big round of applause). With just the final to play and only 15 points left to play for, he can not be caught.

However, the second place spot behind him is still open to no less than six people. (pause waiting for a gasp of anticipation) and IF they have worked out the table themselves since it was last published after the quarter finals then Scratchy, Softie, Tom, Galaxy, Screacher and Pete T will all know that they can still finish in second spot. (steps back in wonderment and trepidation)

There is a spread of less than 15 points between them all, so, a bit like last seasons English and Scottish Premier Leagues, it is game on for second place. (pause while Softie starts heckling)

To try and keep the tension going a little bit, (whoooooooooo) I wont at this point publish the table, so you dont know who has got what points or what the difference is between you all, unless of course you are also keeping your own spreadsheet!.

Just because the top of the table is tight doesnt mean that everyone else should lose heart (rousing cheer from the others). The scoring throughout the game has been a fairly close run thing and a fully correct prediction for the final, bringing 15 points, could move people up several places (pause for another round of thunderous applause), so get your predictions for the final onto the thread as quick as you can.

At this point in time, it only remains for me to say very well done to Gus, (pause for the applause to die down again) those maximum 15 pointers in matches 10, 15 and 17 really made all the difference (stifled calls of bliddy cut and paste cheat from the itch in the corner).

I hope everyone has enjoyed the game and I will be interested to know who will be taking part if we run the same competition on the board and the website for the Toon matches all next season.

ITK - I don`t think I could play this with the Toon in the league - bi too much like tempting fate.

Loved playing this through Euro 2000 though, really added another level of interest to the matches, especially after we went out!(:o)

ITK, I certainly did not intentionally mean to devalue the competition. Is there any way my post could have been mislaid?

I was sure I went for 0-0 Draw, with Italy to win on penalties, no scorer nominated. At least I think that was what I cut and pasted from Scratchy!!! Seriously I was sure I posted Holland 2-1 Kluivert.

Anyway, I would like to thank Scratchy for all his help, mind you I cannae understand how when we put in the same tips I end up with more than him!!;o) I would like to thank The Daily Toon Team for putting up this competition and for the sleepless nights keeping everyone up to date, The teams for trying so hard to match my predictions, except for Italy, that Inzaghi missing those 2 sitters in the Semi, The other competitors for keeping me on me toes, Me mam and dad in heaven, Mrs gus for her support, without which I probably would not have missed the Holland-Italy semi, apparently. My daughter the gusette, (who got her first report from high school yesterday, all A except for 1 B). Praise God our Father who art in heaven with me mam and da, it shows he who follows the path of righteousness can over come all obstacles in my way. I would finally like to thank the sponsers for the wonderful prize. Mrs gus is standing at the mail box awaiting the arrival of the 2 first class return tickets and 2 season tickets as well as the 5 grand in spending money.

Thank you Galaxy, I have to apologise to everyone who used skill and knowledge.

I think my luck this time was definately in!! I certainly did not expect to do well never mind win!!

Still the 2 First class air tickets and the 2 season tickets will come in handy, I might donate the 5 grand in cash to charity, or at least give half of it to Scratchy, as it was his tips that won it for me ;o)

Cos I'm a tw@t and I emailed a change of score...
