N.E.M.A VS N.E.S.C

greenspun.com : LUSENET : New England Motocross Racing : One Thread

I JOINED NEMA LAST WEEKEND IN CLAVERACK.... I WOULD HAVE TO SAY...THAT WAS THE MOST FUN I HAVE HAD AT THE RACES IN A WHILE....EVERYONE THERE IS ALL NICE...AND LIKE ONE BIG FAMILY... WHY CANT N.E.S.C BE LIKE THAT? THATS WHAT I DONT GET.. N.E.M.A IS LIKE ONE BIG FAMILY... AND N.E.S.C IS LIKE ALL FOR ONE ! EVERYONE IN NEMA GETS ALONG EVEN WITH THE TRACK REFS...ECT... BUT IN N.E.S.C MOST RIDERS GET ALONG...BUT NO-ONE GETS ALONG WITH THE REFS..OR ECT.... NEMA GETS LIKE 10 LAPS JUST FOR AMETURES...AND LIKE 7-9 FOR NOVICE..AND 10-15 FOR EXPERTS..... NESC. ALL YOU GET IS A LOUSY 4 LAPS OR A 10-15+2 MOTO....UNLESS UR AN EXPERT WHEN U GET 20+2.... I THINK IN N.E.M.A U GET SOOO MUCH MORE !

AND IT IS A HELL OF ALOT CHEAPER !

i know jenn, i race both organizations too! NEMA, everyone gets along and you feel like you know everybody and EVERYONE (track staff, sign- up people, and riders)gets along. NESC is like serious business where everyone is out to win! NEMA is a lot cheaper even if you don't pre- enter.

Wow Jen, you've found new life and I see that you have also aquired a new number! (now I need 2 files for you)

Years ago Jen, N.E.M.A. was set-up and designed for younger riders to start their careers. It was more like a training ground. Many Vets and seasoned experts will tell you that's where they started.

Their main policy is children come first before the adult classes. So if any unforseen incident arises, the grand prix, vets and parent guardien classes are cut before the mini's. As you have noticed ... all classes have 15+2 lap moto format. That's because m otocross is an endurance sport and you need to practice/train for the longer motos you will endure in your future career. At one time Jen, most motos at N.E.S.C. were also 10, 15 or 20 minute moto's. The addition of many new classes has lowered the amount of time for the rider.

It would assist N.E.S.C.'s time schedule to move 50 and 60cc riders back to N.E.M.A., where as a younger rider they gain the needed track time and experience. Another key issue here would be the confidence level a younger person developes. We seem to lose many new experts quickly at N.E.S.C. and I feel it is for 2 main reasons.

1) they just do not have the experience/knowledge to compete at that level yet - I do agree that there are some who CAN make that transition. Most known new expert to be competetive is Paul Veraka, but remember his training originated from N.E.M.A.. His dad Dave was also very instrumental in the recent developement of the N.E.M.A. organization.

2) confidence levels-- this is easy to see Jen. You start as novice, get your 2-5 laps, your really good so you win your first five races, boom to amateur .. now your getting 10 minutes (hopefully), but your good here and you place top 3 in 10 races and yahoo--- you're expert.

Now you run with Barton, Treadwell, Silva, Johnson, Carter, Lorusso and Squires! WOW, that's intimidation ... and are you ready for that training class they are about to hand you? Yea they make that happen quick, like an ice bath from a cozy sleep. You now get spanked, lapped, blown into a berm or two, then they give you the wake up call. DUDE GET MORE EXPERIENCE - so they leave and go to other tracks where the can win or finish higher in a moto -- that builds confience.

Ask any one of those guys how long they were amateurs before getting their expert plate.

Well Jen great chatting - sorry I spoke much, but you know I how I love your simile. S

ya that is the only thing about nema that i dont like.... i think everyone should get the same thing.....but i like the way they do it at the same time...(mixed feelings) cuz it helps keep up stamina also for the lil ones....so when they get older they can do long motos like barton squires treadwell lorusso carter and silva...(leo too )

Pierre..... you said most of it and VERY WELL I might add. One thing that is really bothering me is the "moving-up". As motocross grows, more and more people are getting their kids into it. THEY lack the experience of what motocross WAS, and some of them just want their kids to be the billboards of success and they are not allowing these kids to develope skill and maturity. They just want them to go fast. Look at the damn 50's and 60's. They are so juiced up with little 40 lbers on them, for WHAT. "MY KID WON" Big deal. These kids, mine included, need 3-4-5 years in a class to develop skills to avoid unnecessary accidents, learn to race defensively, split second decision making. As parents, we are so misguided in the win at all cost syndrome. It's going to cost a life.... you MARK MY WORDS. The next few years are going to be worse than ever because we have this whole new generation of riders being brought up in a society that values a finish position to brag about more than the character of the individual. Case in point... Everyone blames the flaggers for not doing their job. And many many times they are un- trained and uninterested in their job. But tell me this, HOW THE HELL CAN A KID ON A 125 BE HIT 8 TIMES. Once yeah, twice maybe, but come on.... 6 riders not skilled or alert enough to miss him!!! I witnessed multiple hits, 3 motos in a row at a recent Wick race. Now take Carter lauching off his bike on the first lap of his moto at the National..... EVERYONE avoided him. Those guys were traveling way faster than you'd ever dream of riding but they had the skill and experience and reaction ability to minimize a crash.

How bout this one. This is bugging me beyond belief. NEMA and NESC have been at odds about what they call their classes for a few years now. The 80's in NEMA are 80 Under or Over, A or B. Amateur or Novice. A couple amateur NEMA kids raced NESC Southwick. Guess what they did well and another regular NESC 80 rider's mother said they're "A" riders at NEMA. They got cards moving them to EXPERT a few days after the race. Why... the expert class needed more riders so the Expert rider could get contingency. It is so STUPID, THOUGHTLESS and RIDICULOUS it's almost not worth writing about. Now.... add this to the possible equation. A kid that rode in the 60 A class at NEMA CAN... at his option, ride the 80A (Amateur) at NEMA. Now, if any of THOSE VERY VERY YOUNG, INEXPERIENCED RIDERS ALSO GOT "EXPERT" cards..... the 80 Expert class at NESC will have kids with very little experience on their gate. So what's the price these kids will pay. Was that worth the "contingency" money. AND>>>> how about all those kids at NESC who are riding their butts off week after week trying to make Expert... now they have a bunch of kids showing up with EXPERT plates because someone was so selfish and self centered and NESC took one persons word for it. COME ON.... WAKE UP. AND... those kids that they MOVED TO EXPERT are eligible to run the 125 Youth B class automatically. Now if this isn't setting things up for a tragedy...... what is. And... the parents are so proud "Oh, MY KIDS AN NESC EXPERT", "OH YEAH"

Pierre... keep clicking away. I'm sure they'll be supeanoring (sp) your pictures someday ... "and young man, did anyone ever train or tell you when NOT TO JUMP...." "how were the track conditions? was the rock the size of a potatoe that hit your kid in the temple and killed him" "Oh, the stake in your helmet, did it just take one eye out and an ear or his nose too".

I say my prayers .... please people WAKE UP. I support the efforts of these guys. A little misguided and unorganized at the moment, but they are right.... THINGS HAVE TO IMPROVE. I'll tell ya exactly where Norman (from Middleboro) head is ... when the guys were talking to him, he offered "I'll give you $2000 to ride" That told me a lot about him...... ANY racer's life has a price tag of $2000.

Peg, the shirt lady. I agree 500% on that. The two organization really need to work together and create a standard of riding skills that equate to class levels. As you are aware, I photograph both organizations and see first hand, rider ability. Yes there are some very quick racers in both organizations but there is a difference.

Currently there are a large number of riders from NESC that ride NEMA events, one for longer motos, two cause there is a different atmosphere. At a NEMA events I see some fast NESC riders who get beat by NEMA guys and then I see the NESC guys woop the crap out of the NEMA guy. Both are amateur riders. But I do agree that when a very fast amateur comes from NEMA, moms/dads ... say, he's too fast. he wooped my kid, he needs to be an expert. Wrong, he is just a fast amateur and you need riders of that quality to compete against. What will make you fast - pushing that fast amateur to the experts so you can will without competition or taking on that fast dude. Where do you learn ???

Create a standard of rider proficiency for NEW ENGLAND rid

i have raced both organizations... and i definitly like NEMA a HELLS of alot more.. reasons...first off...the Pirate races Middleboro had before NEMA started this year...i raced the 125 Novice class(not youth, even though i was only 16 at the time) and when we hit the second corner i was in 6th place but it was life and death out there, people kiking my front tire...what the hell is that!!!! you would never see that at a NEMA race...the same thing happened to me when i raced NESC in 1998 at Southwick in the novice class... All NEMA members get along, we are there to help anyone who needs it, i've let people borrow my helmet my pads even my bike...i've even had people lug my bikes home when my truck broke down...those are the kinda people i want to be around everyweek, i dont know wbout you though so you guys go and bitch and whine about track conditions and all that crap, and us NEMA riders will go and have fun and race because we love it, and dont bother showing up at a NEMA event if alls your gunna do is cry about everything MatthewL i hope no-one take offense to this, just putting forth how i feel
